Kelly Ortberg is an interesting choice. PR is making a lot of his Mech E degree, but at that level I don't know how much impact it really has.

Met him a few times when I was at RC. Nice guy, kind of a quiet demeanor, almost too nice to be the CEO. But I think he is a good consensus builder, good with building a team. I thought Clay was quite a lot stronger and sharper.

Here's hoping he gets Boeing sorted out.

Boeing needs to focus on technology and not stock price. I think Kelly has a technical background and isn't just a finance guy, so that could be really good for Boeing.

Feels like a joke about Hawk Mech E degree is in order if it weren’t for the Cyclone Aero E being such a wreck.

My roommate in college is his nephew. Small world!

Tell me more. I have some family looking at aero E as a major.
Department is fine, one of my sons graduated from it and is well employed. Alum of the department Muilenburg didn’t work out so well at Boeing.

When he was CEO, they had some Boeing program for undergrad research at ISU that was some big deal to the students anyway. They thought it was a sure path to a job. My guess was it was free labor or something. Not sure if it is still a thing in ISU Aero E with Muilenburg gone.

Kelly definitely seemed like a step back from Clay. Steve was a step back up. Regardless the company has not seemed to put as much emphasis into the avionics side as they used to.

A LOT of Collins peeps do not like Kelly if anything as they felt sold out by the takeover and Kelly's MASSIVE golden parachute.

What was the story on Timm retiring so young? He was a peer of mine in services for a while, was in a lot of meetings with him for the year or 2 he was around there. He was very much on the fast track, which he stayed on, to be sure. I was stunned.

I felt Kelly was a step up from Clay. Clay insisted on making a lot of acquisitions to grow top line growth. On the government side of the business, I don't recall any of the acquisitions working out. Generally, as soon as Kelly took over the acquisitions stopped.

I always thought Kelly was a brilliant strategist.
