Donovan Davis announced on May 6th that he committed to the Cyclones!!!

You wrote this like you are 273 years old. Was that in Kings English or Yiddish?

You obviously did not read the introductory warning: Geezer here.
Do you need it translated into gen-Speak? Here ya be:

Back in the 70s my dad used to rage at sports broadcasts, and teenage-me told him, “Then stop supporting the sponsors.” He was not amused. Peak teenage know-it-all energy.

Funny thing is, that same attitude is basically a monetized career path now. Turns out I either missed my moment or showed up a few decades early.

Honestly though, the rule hasn’t changed: if people don’t watch, click, or engage, there’s no profit in the nonsense — and the hype machine moves on to the next shiny distraction.

Anyway… that’s the world we live in.

For what it’s worth, I’m rooting for the kid, whatever choice he makes.

Geezer here.

My old man used to complain about sports broadcasts way back in the 70's, and I once told him that if he didn't like it, he shouldn't patronize the sponsors. It made him furious. Teenage Smartitude used to do that. Now it is a moneymaker. I guess I missed my calling or was born too soon.

Bottom line: if nobody paid attention, and there was no money to be made from such folderol, the money changers in the Temple would find a different folderol to promote,

And so it goes.

Myself, I wish the kid well, no matter what he decides.
I'm 100% certain that's the first time I've seen "folderol" used on CF. You get bonus points. :)

I know but I am in my 50s and thought my writing gave me away generationally. Brother you write like you are actually Father Time ;) ;) ;)

I'll never understand how a highschooler's decision on anything became a media event. Maybe I'm getting old.
Yeah especially when it means nothing to "commit" to anyplace. He can "commit" today and decommit tomorrow, so a commitment means essentially nothing. There is nothing committed in a "commitment".

Also, with the portal today, high school recruiting has become far less important.
