Done with Wally

Snyder does it why can't we? Oh wait cause he is a good head coach an knows how to manage a whole team.

I must be the only one who thinks the defense has FAR out performed the offense on the whole this year. That's not saying much, but still....

I think Mangino is a heck of a coach, and will eventually get things moving the right way. And I do have questions about Wally's abilities moving forward.

But I just don't see how so many lay the blame at the feet of the defense. 14 points was never, ever going to win this game. 2 TO and 1 on downs = 0 points. Avg time of possession I'm guessing was WELL under 2 minutes. AT LEAST 10 drops. The ineptness goes on and on.

Of our signature wins (or any wins actually), can we name any where we outscored the opponent? OSU? Iowa (save the 3 OT that was basically 20-20 at the end of reg). Texas? NU?

ISU is an offensive wasteland. Granted, the 3 games a year when the DO show up, at least 2 of them the D doesn't.

Ahhh hell.... f it.

Recruiting is the MOST important part of college sports.

BUT not all coaches are on staff to recruit. If you want to blame the lack of defensive talent on someone, I would look at the guys who are out there recruiting, not Wally. That's just my opinion.

It's no different than basketball. We have Matt and Cornell recruiting. Hoiberg didn't hire Charlie Henry to recruit. He hired him for his X's and O's.

Wally deserves criticism for today. I've said that. Hell I killed him publicly on last week's podcast after the Texas game. I just don't think recruiting is something we should criticize him for. Rhoads, Shane, Sturdy, etc....sure

This is totally right. Wally is not at ISU to recruit and it's not really his job to keep a hold of players. He's an X's and O's guy. There just isn't any experienced talent anywhere on the defense. OU's line was just embarrassingly over matching to ISU's dline. Every body says Knott, AJ...Knott, AJ....I hate to break it but those defenses were not overly talented either and Wally's defenses were good. To say Wally can't coach is a joke.

I think the actual talent on D is pretty good in the fresh/soph classes. I expect this defense to be a good deal better next year.

Defense could be 10 times better and still be really bad. We need a lot of JC players to even win 3 games next year. Why is it we seem to play better on the road than at home?

We gave up 48 points to a Texas team that can't score. They avg something like 14 ppg against power 5 schools.

We just gave up over 500 yards rushing today at home. The were damn near getting a first down every rush (8.6 yards per carry)

Okie State scored 37 points on us, and their offense is awful. They have scored 15 ppg since they played us.

Baylor dropped 35 in the first half against us.

NDSU scored 34 points against us, and their offense isn't that good.

Offense hasn't been great, but the defense is one of the worst in the country.

LOL, yea you probably are.

Wally Burnham is a great coach. His resume for the past 40 years speaks for itself.

With that said, it might be time for him to retire. A new staff has provided a little spark in the offense, maybe it will for the defense. Still, we need better players on defense. We don't have Big 12 quality DL or LB's.

This is nothing more than media spin. It's time to put down the kool-aid Adam, sorry.

It's not just a talent issue. That's part of it, but none of our guys were even in the right position, or took correct angles, or even tried to tackle correctly.

I'm sick of the media types making excuses for this program and covering up for them. Ask some tough questions for once. People are paying big bucks to support this program. They should at least expect to see a good effort and at least the basic fundamentals.

How has his coaching really been here? If he hasn't had Knott/klein would it even be a question whether he should be done here?

Prior to this year? His defense had been good. Is that really in question?

I know people are ******, so am I, but why do we have to go back and belittle past accomplishments? The defense use to keep ISU in games they had no business belonging in. The offense let ISU down the first 5 years Wally was here. This is the first year where the defense is letting the offense down.

We need guys that can coach football more than anything. College football is first and foremost about development. Which is why we got our ***** handed to us by UNI, NDSU, and Tulsa in the past two years, and also why UT sucks while KSU is leading the conference.

We make mistakes you see in high school, if not junior high.

Didn't realize I was in the media.....

Also didn't realize I was spinning by saying we need some new blood on defense.

I'm not going to go after Wally over his recruiting. He uses his network, but he's there to scheme and teach the guys, and motivate them. That said, the D looked like a D2 outfit out there. Beyond awful. So unprepared, horrible fundamentals and just lackadaisical. The team was mentally DONE in about 15 minutes. They never had a chance from any angle. That front seven on defense is as bad as anything I've seen in my 35+ years of ISU football. That's saying a LOT.

I don't care how nice of a guy Wally is or how great his career has been. He's ineffective as a coach right now and his defense has looked outmatched in nearly every game this season. We are horrible on that side of the ball. Either retire or be fired, those should be the only options given to Wally after this season.

And rhoads needs to be put on blast too as a "defensive coach". Inexcusable to play this way in year 6 of a program.

The only other option today was to blitz like vs Texas which I would prefer. However I knew this was coming today. Our LBs are flipping tiny. Take Miller out with injury, and they back pedaled after every snap. They weren't going to be able to take on the OU guards, so they tried to run around them, well that doesn't work. This was the largest mismatch of the day. OU lineman downfield on our LBs. Game over.

Have to agree with this. It's one thing to be in a men-v-boys battle where we are trying to do the right things and are just being completely blown up. It's another thing to be in a men-v-boys battle with the boys completely and regularly out of position to the point where the QB has to decide which 10+ yard option to choose from. The defense was simply not ready to play today. Most of us realized we were going to get blown out today, but what we weren't happy with is it was completely obvious we were not ready to play today, which is absolutely inexcusable on any given week, but it's even worse when we had 2 weeks to prepare for this game.

The defense historically hasn't been good, just the less bad of the two.

Wally is suffering the consequences of **** poor recruiting and development. I don't what his role is in that, but the buck stops with CPR. I tip my hat to Wally and appreciate who he is and what he has done. The problems with ISU football right now are way beyond him. The guy he works for is the one who needs to be held accountable. His history is on the defensive side of the ball. It has been exasperating watching him mangle the offense for five years, now he's fielding a defense that can't stop anybody. Time for Paul to go. I assume Wally would follow him out the door, but this isn't a Wally problem.

Just looking at points is easy to do. Aside from the Texas game - what has the offense done in any of those games?

I'm one who believes the offense has a strong role in the D's performance. You just can't expect a defense to spend an entire game on the field and get things done. Add to that - how many points has the OFFENSE given up? How many turnovers in horrid positions. Non-covered kicks (OSU) and special teams scores?

Today was a perfect example. We played a top talent team - and still our offense is our defense's own worst enemy.

Simply put - the D has helped the O 10x more than the other way around.

Our guys came out, saw the OU on the helmets, knew they weren't prepared and predictable results followed.
