Does Coach Otz have an inbounding problem?

Inbounding is to basketball what FG kicking is to football.

Yes, we suck at it. We’ve always sucked at it. Regardless of coach.

I'm sure I'm looking through cardinal and gold glasses but Johnny had some good inbound plays.

At that point ISU still had 2 timeouts. Should have used one of them when they couldn't get it in.

Refs “letting the players decide the game” in final possessions has gotten out of control. Every coach now plans for anything goes physicality at the end of games knowing that refs want to get off the floor and in the locker room. Night before Higgins and crew let the KU center drag his Tech opponent out of the key while the driving Tech guard was mauled driving to that spot. Big pile of bodies with no whistle and Bill $elf was immediately first in hand shake line with smirk/smile. It’s not in print in the rules book but every D-1 official knows the call. I don’t watch NBA so I don’t know if it carries over at that level.

It wasn't pretty. Near the end of the game there are certain guys that you don't want to get the pass and get fouled. so it is harder than it looks. Shoon is one of those guys, but he came through when he had too.
yeah, I see why trying to find the biggest target on the court who shoots almost 90% doesn't seem to make much sense...

Seemed like the previous regime struggled often with just getting the ball in and currently ISU at least has some sort of outlet just to get that part taken care of.

They've had a few issues but probably not as bad as it seems.

If I were to pinpoint one thing to be 'concerned' with it's when ISU loses their mind on fast breaks. They act like the kid who's never gotten a chance to get a bucket before, haha.

I listened to the game on the radio and Walters was super pissed the refs took so long getting Grill the ball on the inbounds play. He said they had been working on a "home run" play to Holmes all week for that exact situation. When the ref took so long Porter Moser noticed what ISU was setting up and told his team to watch for Holmes breaking for the basket. Walters was not happy to say the least.

They could get it in. Lipsey had his guy juked, but got tackled. Otherwise it would have been a clean and fairly easy throw in. If the defense is allowed you wrap their arms around the offensive player and take them to the ground, then yeah, it's going to be difficult to inbound the ball.

Getting the ball inbounds in an all-switch/denial situation is very, very difficult. It's one thing to get it inbounds on your standards baseline out of bounds. It's another thing when they are in full denial mode and switching everything late.

I don't like when the refs stand there waiting for the defense to get set. If the in-bounder is ready, and wants the ball, they need to give it to him and start the play. There is no obligation to wait for the defense to be ready.
