Does anyone remember Hercle Ivy?

Fowler relocated back to Kentucky where he was employed in some capacity in the horse racing industry. Tragically, he died in 1988 at the age of only 31. I believe the cause was a heart attack.

Had the opportunity to meet Trickey, Nance, and Orr, only one I would feel comfortable having a beer with....Heeeeere's Johnny. :D
When Johnny Orr first arrived in Ames, I saw him parking a big black Lincoln on Lincolnway near the ISU Bookstore. I was walking west on the north side of the street. When he got out of the car, I yelled "Go get em Johnny!" In typical Johnny Orr fashion, and with that raspy voice, he pumped his fist in the air and yelled, "Yeah Buddy!" He was one of a kind.

I was a ballboy when Ken Trickey was coach. At half time of one game he said to my friend and I......

"If you rebound for that M***** F***** bird you are done, fired, gone, out of here!"
Of course the crowd booed us the whole time after shoot five for five.

Well Cyclone fans, this has been fun. Life and time are relative, and I'm sure many of you are wondering why some old geezer like me would open an old post. I wanted to honor my friend Jim Murphy, who has had such a profoundly positive effect on my life. I would be remiss if I didn't mention my other closest friend in life, Kendall Anderson, who was an All State basketball player for Atlantic. Kendall had skills galore. Perhaps some of the older posters remember him. He displayed Pistol Pete ball handling skills, and once hit an open team mate with a 50 foot behind the back pass at a tiny cracker box gym in Creston. Kendall played baseball and basketball for Grandview when they were a national powerhouse. My memories are about the special place of ISU, and all the very special people I was fortunate to meet and befriend. Go Cyclones!
