I have, but wonder who gets it. Some places divide the tips up between all the help.

If I really like the restaurant, and I have been treated well in the past, I likely will leave a tip.

If the food is hot and ready when they say it will be and I have no waiting, I will tip a large amount.

Depends. Nicer restaurant I might feel obligated to; but let's be honest, to bag up some food and take a card is not difficult work. Sometimes I'll leave buck or two, but my wife never does. There's a reason you're doing carryout.

Usually not, but it depends. The only reason I get into my car and go pick it up is to avoid having to tip and pay a delivery fee. They should actually tip me for dragging my lazy butt off my couch and into traffic to give their place some business.

I usually throw a few bucks on for the tip. The few places I do get takeout from have the servers take care of the takeout orders. So I definitely don't do a full 20%, but I figure they are taking time from their normal routine to take care of my order, so I feel like they should get a little something.

Yes. Someone is putting the food in to-go containers, verifying the order, making sure you have napkins, utensils, etc. I'm not paying 20%, but it still takes time. The bartenders or wait staff are generally not paid very well and rely on tips.

That being said, I don't tip someone at a drive-through and they essentially do the same thing.

Nah. I don't tip when i pick up an online order from a store either, which is often the way i order takeout as well.

I mean, if a 15-20% tip is based on providing an hour of service, what is one minute of service for grabbing my bag\box and handing it to me worth? Maybe a nickel on a $20 order?

Don’t tip for takeout. I kind of get tipping servers at a sit down place but really wish that wasn’t a thing. I will tip until society realizes it though. I’m paying a set price for a good. If you want more money then charge more for the item. We should just pay restaurant employees legitimate wages.

I'm normally a 20 - 25% tipper. I'm more like 15-20% for takeout. Especially so, since i usually frequent my take-out places a lot.

Nope...but I also think tipping is dumb and some people have some sort of moral enjoyment from tipping a bunch. I also am not cultured enough to know that you should tip cabbies, hair cut people and what not.

Seriously I just paid you $15 to cut my hair for less than 15 minutes. Your material cost is nearly nothing. Also if I get great service at Hickory Park and then go to an upscale place and get the same level of service why should the person at the upscale place get more just because the food is more expensive?
