do you miss ISU week 1 thursday games?

2006-2007-2008-2009-2010 ISU opened season on Thursday night

loved them as a college kid

unsure how i'd like them now as an adult with PTO and a young child

It was nice when I was fresh out of college and could use it as an excuse to get a 5 day weekend, but Saturday is when CFB should be played.

No. It would be an absolute nightmare as a working professional. As a college kid it was awesome.

I didn't even like them as a college kid because I had a Friday 8AM all 8 semesters where my grade dropped a letter if I missed 3 classes.

I already have to work around a lot to get to games as working adult with kids. This would be a giant PITA.

Gameday is more fun when the tailgating scene is going. And it was always much more muted for those weekday games.

Not to mention we only get so many games during the warmer weather portion of the season, so losing a prime tailgating saturday from that sucks as well.

I always thought Thursday games were fun to watch on TV, but I have never been a fan attending (but I did have the time of my life the Thursday game against WVU). Tough for many working people to attend.

Frankly, the best time for a college football game is 1:00 p.m. on a Saturday.

No, and thankfully the two biggest reasons from that era for opening on Thursday are mostly gone:

(1) Exclusive TV windows on Saturdays
(2) Fans putting Labor Day weekend plans ahead of attending a Saturday game

I'm not a tailgater so I didn't mind them just because it would then open up Saturday to watch all the other games. I get it was a pain for a lot of people to attend though.

I wouldn't mind it now I guess since there are so many games that Thursday night but at the time it felt a like a low tier league time for a game.

Speaking of that I'm excited for the opener this year being on FS1. ESPN+ never works for me that first week.

Logistics for coming down from Minnesota a day and a half early were never fun. Usually come down on Friday night for Saturday game. Would have to come down at least Thursday morning if I wanted to tailgate at all for a Thursday night game.

I'm in the minority here, but I loved Thursday night season openers for three reasons.

First, it's like Christmas coming a few days early. Second, the first game of the season is usually brutally hot and playing it at night made the game so much more enjoyable. Third, most of the nation's attention was on us.

Weren't these games on local/regional FSN and some weird early version of CyTV? I don't remember even watching any of them or being able to.

They were usually ugly wins or losses to a MAC school so maybe it was good that it wasn't easily accessible.

I liked Thursday when I was not attending. If I'm going to the game though, I want it to be on Saturday.

I'd enjoy a Thursday night road game sometime against an Arizona or Cincinnati type team (i.e. not Iowa or K-State). It'd be fun to have a lot of eyeballs on us and it'd be great to have a wide open Saturday that I can either binge watch a bunch of games without my attention locked onto ISU or cash it in for goodwill to go to the farmer's market or hiking etc. so I can watch ISU on a future Saturday.

Playing on Thursday night was the reason it could even be on TV. At that time, the Saturday TV windows were exclusive, so the options for a televised game were:
(1) Pay-per-view
(2) Start after 9 p.m. (because of the 6:00 window)
(3) Play on Thursday

This is what I remember as well, but I might be misremembering. The MC22 broadcast would be that early CyTV type broadcast.
And losing to Kent State after having needed a triple OT the previous year to beat Toledo is not the best way to advertise your football brand.

Also, it didn't seem to prepare us well for week 2.
2006 - barely beat UNLV
2007 - lose to UNI
2008 - comfortably beat Kent State
2009 - bad loss to Iowa
2010 - bad loss to Iowa

I don't believe any of the ISU season opening games that were on a Thursday were on TV. I was referring to Thursday night college games in general. Sorry for not being clear.
