I always believe we will. I have watched every game we have played believing there was a chance. Always have to believe.

that is the thing we still had a lot to improve on this season and were in almost every game till the end still. the biggest thing will be the speed, Oregon exposed that factor really and more then a few teams did on the defensive backs side as well. the CFP is possible next year if we go 13-1 (loss to OU regular season) winning the CCG. but I will take winning the big 12 and a Sugar bowl berth as the goal for next season now.

Oh, and we shouldn't even talk playoffs until we can get by Iowa. Kirk owns Matt and until Matt figures out Iowa, forget about it. Matt buys into playing Kirk's game hook line and sinker except he is not as good at is as Kirk.
it took Kirk 5 tries to get his 1st win in the series. I'm not worried about that factor at all. but the team does need to come out firing on all cylinders from the get go next season, not taking the first few games to "warm up" for any chance for this to happen.

Always going to depend on how other conferences play out but I do believe Campbell has brought this program to credibility and a player in the discussion. If we were to avenge our only loss with a CCG win I think we'd get in over any one loss non conference champion other than Alabama.

Beat Iowa first. We better f@#%$ng beat them next year. Then, we're at OU. That is going to be must see tv. Get by those two and we got a chance.

Does the Big 12 need that game anymore? I mean, there are no divisions. There really is a true champion at the end of the year. Ohio State has proven that you don't need a "13th" data point. Is it just for the money now? Just schedule ISU/OU the week of the other conf champ games.

The odds would be very slim.... but not impossible like they have been up until now.

This was easily the best ISU football team in program history and so fun to watch.... but still had enough glaring issues that will prevent us from making the playoffs if they aren't corrected that's for sure. We were far from a well oiled machine this year..... but that's exciting too because we still have quite a bit of room for improvement.

Always

$40 million a year. Now, think about your opening question.

With all the outcry for non power 5 representation i think it's only a matter of time before the playoff is expanded to 8 with all the 5 power champs getting bids along with the top non power 5 team. If this were to happen it's important to have the conference offer their best team at the end of the season.

I have high hopes for the future of the program but I do think the team benefited from Covid this year. I don't believe games like K-State and WVU will be nearly as easy next year. I think ISU is absolutely a favorite to make it to the CCG.

But to get to the playoffs in a regular year, you have to have a near perfect season which typically requires talent that is head and shoulders above most of the competition. And I don't think Iowa State is quite there yet.

We cannot forget about Texas and Okie State. Those programs are not going away, and we didn't exactly blow either of them away this year. Do we have a chance? Sure. Do I realistically think that it will happen? No. Too many odds stacked against us - Big 12 play is tough, need to get past OU, blue-bloods will always have the inside track, and we still need to have all the starts align. I would love to see it happen, but am very doubtful.

The CFP is a cartel that is hard to infiltrate. Everything would have to fall into place perfectly for us to have a chance at that.

Wouldn't that be the team that finished the round robin in first?

Only way we’d get in is to be undefeated B12 champs. This year has reminded CFB fans that it’s a business and the committee is going to do what it can to get the biggest brands on the biggest stage- just the way it is.

ISU can make it, but it will have to be a nearly perfect season. If Iowa States only loss is against Oklahoma and we beat them in the conference championship game, I believe we would be in. That means winning all of the games we're supposed to, including Iowa, Texas, and Oklahoma State. A 1 loss B12 team would be in unless the other 4 power 5 conference champions are undefeated. Even then we'll see about the Pac 12.

It's definitely possible, but of course not an easy feat.

13-0 gets us in for sure. 12-1 conference Champs with an earlier loss to someone like OU or Iowa gets us in too. That said, I don't expect us to do that. I think a great showing next year would be the first 10 win season in school history, a return to the B12 title game, and another NY6 bowl.
