Oh, and we shouldn't even talk playoffs until we can get by Iowa. Kirk owns Matt and until Matt figures out Iowa, forget about it. Matt buys into playing Kirk's game hook line and sinker except he is not as good at is as Kirk.
what does that even mean?

I don’t think it’s that CMC can’t figure him out. I believe it’s the staff being conservative in non Big 12 games. We haven’t been able to put teams away with bread and butter play calling yet. Maybe with the gains we made this year and a another off-season with Andrews that will change.

You are basically asking if we go undefeated for the most part. One loss is not a deal breaker by any means but I think you will need to have most of the blue bloods have 2 losses at that point. We got a lot of love from the committee this year no doubt so not saying it’s impossible, but to crack that top-4 even when you’ve made it to sixth like we did is a massive jump though it may not seem like it is. I said no because I don’t see us running the table but we can finish with one loss which will have us in the conversation.

I'd like to see 10 regular season wins and see what comes out of that.

Things will have to fall into place.

What we need is to win, get into the CCG (hopefully win) and at least play in another NY6 bowl. Two years in a row and our recruiting rankings will increase, if not solely that the ranking systems seem to give a pop to players committing to top ten programs. We will also attract higher recruits along with the bump. We are on the edge. Make this year at least status quo for two more years and things will start coming our way.

This might have been noted previously, but keep in mind ISU would need to be ranked high in preseason to have a realistic path into the top 4.

Thru 2019, here's the correlation between preseason AP rank and appearance in the CFP. A couple of teams ranked #12 made it; biggest jump is from #19. Majority of teams were at #7 or better preseason.

Lose 1 reg season game and win the CCG and it happens. But that is a really tall task. ISU tends to play close games. The odds that we don’t have a couple bad bounces are slim.

I hope fans can enjoy what will be a great season. The expectations are going to make a lot of fans freak out over every game.

The only thing that tells me different was watching how we absolutely demolished WV and K State late last year.

Something felt different seeing that

Bring in a stud WR and perhaps someone on the D-Line. Keep the O-line healthy and I absolutely think we can win the whole damn thing.

With all the outcry for non power 5 representation i think it's only a matter of time before the playoff is expanded to 8 with all the 5 power champs getting bids along with the top non power 5 team. If this were to happen it's important to have the conference offer their best team at the end of the season.
With all the money lost due to no fans, less games, etc, the next couple years would be a great time to implement an 8 team playoff. More games to get some of that money back, promote the hell out of it to get as many eyes on it as possible, and fans will come out in full force next year after not being able to go to many or any games at all this year. College football games and tailgating will be a frenzy the next times fans are let in with no restrictions.

WVU for sure. KSU was such a mess at that point.

With as many players returning, and how we finished the year, I see us starting in the polls around 8-10. Plenty close for a run at the CFP. Would have to go 12-1 with a Big 12 Championship to make it almost certain. 11-2 with a Big 12 Championship might be enough, but we'd probably need some help. Definitely possible though. Look how close we were this year at 8-2 before losing to OU. We were #6.

We need these things:
-ability to kick ball out of end zone
-replace tight ends that are moving on.
-develop wide receivers and/or get one impact wide receiver
-develop talent and or get an impact secondary to minimize loss of Eisworth
-stay consistent on punting but ideally improve punting game to the point where we can flip the field more.
-keep the running backs healthy.

If we improve kicking and get most of the other items we are in the playoffs, assuming we stay healthy.
We can get rid of the TE part and the Eisworth part since they’re coming back!!!

Care to adjust your list now?

Allow me:

My current list would be:

A. Better pass protection.
B. Better run blocking against teams strong up the middle. Perrion Winfrey and Keondre Coburn will be back—I think.
C. Better coverage from right corner. Datrone Young seemed to settle in late in the year, but production at the position needs to ratchet up a notch. Or two.
D. Better play at WR. Milton has to stay healthy, and one or two guys need a breakthrough season. Scates, Porter or Bitters would seem to be prime candidates for stretching the field.
