DIY home improvement projects

I'm as far as I can get on my deck refurbish project. (Need the treated wood to dry before I paint)

So I'm going to switch over to something I've been putting off. Replacing some siding over the garage. Siding is starting to rot where the siding and roof come together. Pulled a piece off this weekend to look at what's behind. I think that looks good. Flashing also looks to be intact

So I'm hoping this goes quick and relatively painless.

Probably not home improvement but it’s DIY. Got a Frozen Jeep power wheels with a dead battery at a garage sale. Just converted it over from 12V to 20V and it runs on my drill batteries. A new battery was like 80 bucks. This stuff was like 30.

I also wrapped the wheels in old mtb tires to give it some traction

Vroom vroom.

Amazon product ASIN B00SSBL07U
May need motor and wiring upgrades, but you’re kids will thank you for it.

I’ve done the 12v to 20v conversions multiple times yea the kids love the speed. However you will strip out the gears or burn the motors out pretty fast.

Each time my upgrades lasted about a month. Easy fix though b/c then I would buy upgraded replacement motors/gears on eBay and it’ll last until the plastic wheels fall apart.

How'd the wheels turn out? Ours is a "kawasaki" back wheels were shot, I swapped the front and back, it's better... I also ordered an aftermarket LiFePo4 battery with a few more a/h. For 40 bucks it totally brought that thing back to life.

Wheels turned out great. I grabbed an old tire for free from the bike store, cut off the sidewall and screwed it on. The jeep has enough torque it can pop a wheelie with the added traction.

Tried to replace some toilet hardware today and lost the battle to it. Wrong parts...needs Mansfield specific stuff. Going to get that tomorrow.

BUT, it looks like I also killed this rubber cone of top of my hardline water supply. What do I need to replace this?

Edit: do I have gasket on upside down?

Should be able to get a replacement gasket in plumbing section of any hardware store. That is the correct orientation.

Anyone do their own under cabinet LED lighting? Looking for ideas on RGBW LED light strips that are solderless and then hopefully connect to a wireless switch. Tried Govee but doesn’t look like they will work.

Alternate idea- since you've already got it halfway torn apart, just go grab a champion 4 or toto drake and replace the whole thing instead of keeping the mansfield.

I enjoy working on DIY home improvement projects around our house and I'd be interested to see or hear what types of DIY home improvement projects that my fellow Cyclonefanatics have done or are planning to do. I'm hoping this could give me ideas for my own house.

I'll go ahead and share a small project that I just completed.

We live in a split foyer and the entryway isn't very big. I got tired of everyone's shoes always cluttering up this entryway and getting in the way of the front door, so I ordered a metal shoe cabinet and I built it into the wall. It still needs a little touch up paint on the trim, but it's essentially done. The cabinet is only 4 inches thick so it barely sticks out of the wall, and it holds a total of six pairs of shoes. Now my cluttered entryway problem is solved!

I'd love to see projects others have done.

Good do, clever use of the space with zero eye sore.

Listened to the game while replacing rotten siding above the garage. Back half today. Front half tomorrow. Paint next weekend

And the front half. Add another trade I want nothing to do with.....siding. 9 total hours pulling and replacing siding and I feel like I've been hit by a bus

So here's my latest DIY home project. A few years back, we bought a dining room table and chairs from Homemakers in Des Moines. We thought it looked very nice and was reasonably priced. Now I know why.

This table was made by Ashley and after a few years the paint (or stain?) on the table top started pealing off. It looked awful, so I tried to sand it down so I could refinish it. However, I soon learned that the table top had a super thin wood veneer surface and below that was MDF board, so refinishing was pretty much an impossibility.

So I cut around the edges of the table top, built a frame and attached it to the perimeter of the table top, and then went to Menards to pick up a box of LVP flooring that I liked and was on clearance. I used the LVP flooring for the table top surface and it is now indestructible!

All in all, it was a pretty cheap and easy solution. And if I get tired of this table top surface, I can easily swap it out for something else. :)

Looks nice.

Going to dig this thread up to see if anyone has recommendations on interior painters to use in the Des Moines area? I have a job that is being covered by an insurance claim after we had to repair some damage so am glad I don't have to put in a lot of DIY hours for painting for the size this room is.

I have no idea what color the existing paint is but it's probably original from not long after house was built over 20 years ago by original owner which is why they are covering the entire room to be repainted so it matches. It would be nearly impossible to exact match the repaired area even if I knew the paint color as over time paint will fade and change color.
