Disappointing season

Totally disappointing. No Regular Season Championship, no Big XII Tournament Championship and not even the Sweet 16 with the extra rest from losing in the quarter-finals the Big XII Tournament. Specifically, for the "I hope ISU loses in the Big XII Tournament early so they can rest for the NCAA Tournament crowd", I hope you understand why that is total bull malarkey. Not that I think ISU could have won the Big XII Tournament this year, but if they would have won it - I would consider this a good year. Just pointing out what a short-sighted, horse-**** point of view that is. I said it then, and I say it now. Try to win what is in front of you when you can!
I don’t feel like a regular season nor a big 12 conference championship would lessen this blow. If anything I think those would make the rd of 32 exit feel worse.

This team had a flash of brilliance where I thought they had offense to complement last years defense. Turned out or sieges took a bit of a step back and our cylinders weren’t all clicking at the right time.

Love this coach. Love this team. It was an entertaining winter and that’s what this is about at the EOD. Eyeballs. Capturing attn. spending money on guys making more than we do.

Let’s do it bc again next fall.

Agreed. But how many times has ISU been ranked pre season top 5
I personally don’t care much about preseason polls. It’s just hype. The season is a very long season and things can occur (such as injuries) that can drastically change the course of the season

ISU has won a tournament game 3 of the last 4 seasons. Has that happened before?

And I get we are disappointed tonight. I’m depressed as well. But I think if we are disappointed with a R32 exit then it’s a sign of a very strong program

What a weird year. Started preseason top 10, got to 2, fired a coach midway through the year, lose on a half courter, best shooter breaks hand, pg stops playing before postseason, sg hurt during big 12 tourney.

Disappointing end to what turned out to be a meh season. This was still better than the crap from the McDermott/Wayne Morgan era. Oh well, on to fire pit, field work, fireworks and State Fair season.

The blaming of injuries is nauseating. It’s like it only happens to isu
It doesn’t just happen to ISU. But it doesn’t happen to final 4 teams either.

It isn’t like a guy sprained an ankle and was at 80% for a week. ISUs best player got hurt the first conference game and never recovered. Gilbert played but he was never close to the same, particularly in creating pressure, turnovers and transition offense.

And if you don’t understand that Gilbert was 100% the tip of the spear for everything ISU wanted to do, then you weren’t watching ISU basketball.

Don’t know that there’s any other way to put it besides calling it a disappointment. #2 in the country, “final 4 contender” and then losing to K-State, Oklahoma State, and now this. Honestly, I don’t even know that I’d agree with those saying this was a fun season. What was the highlight?

We do a really good job of maxing out the talent we have, but in the end we still lack the star power to get us over the hump. We exert so much energy on defense then when injuries and shooting slumps hit the wheels fall off quickly. TJ is a helluva coach and he's installed a culture here that should keep us competitive but we need to hit on a home run recruit or portal guy to reach that next level.

I think I'm going to have to stop listening to CF podcasts, the hype machine of the athletic department. I'm old enough to remember when Nojus Indrusaitis looked great last summer before accumulating a grand total of 30 minutes of PT this whole season.

I'll see you in August when the CF Oline hype machine starts up again! This is the year!

Do you think Houston wasn't final 4 last year without their injuries?

Slight disappointment for me, just from how we finished the Big 12 season. Mostly the losses @OSU and KSU at home. Everything else was excuseable. I put little stock in the tournament as far as season "success" goes. It's a crap shoot where anything can, and does, happen. If you base the entire season on 1-2 games in the tournament, fine, but then why even watch the rest of the year if those games are all that matters?

A round of 32 exit is now a disappointing season for ISU basketball for some fans

The program has come a long way in a short time
It's not that at all, when you are ranked in the top 10 most of the season, get up to #2 in the country, you expect to at least get through the first weekend. This was not a team hoping to get into the tournament and win a game, but one expected to make a solid run, which it did not do. I am sure the players and coaches are disappointed as well as the fans, but my question is "starting tomorrow, how are they going to fix it?" We need more mentally tough players, that do not let down, instead of players that are great when they are playing well, but disappear when it goes South.
