Okay Ducks, who do you hate more - Oregon State or Washington? I would assume Oregon State being an in-state rival, but I get the impression from the postings on here its Washington.

For fans it was mixed. Not going to veer off to anything political and hope I’m not the cause of others doing so, I’ll just say the pandemic became politicized and Oregon is no different.
Personally - I wasn’t sure if it should happen. I’m obvious a die hard Ducks fan. Maybe as die hard as it gets: I went to U of O, I interned with the football team, my stepdad went there, he and several of his friends were members of the booster club, I’d get to go to their luncheons and hear their gossip, I had friends play on the team, my girlfriend also went to U of O and loves the team. Even when living in other countries I’d find a way to at least get a radio broadcast of the game. But I didn’t want to endanger young people or the community if they couldn’t handle it. I love Oregon football - I could live without it for a year if necessary.
The Pac-12 should have gone ahead and started early/on time - in retrospect. But no one knew for sure what was going to happen and they decided to be like the Big Ten and gambled that it would get worse, the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 would look like fools while they look smart. Turned out the opposite way. If the virus spikes had happened earlier, who knows.
Iowa State hasn’t had too many issues? Oregon hasn’t had to cancel a game on their behalf - only Washington was canceled because they had an explosion of the virus. Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, Colorado, and Stanford were fine and everyone else had to cancel at least one game at their request. The quarantine contact tracing rules cut into the team, but that’s a CDC/health authority thing instead of the conference.
I’m sure y’all aren’t happy about not getting to play Iowa, especially with this team. We’re mad at Washington, we could have played if they managed their program better. Even with no pandemic it would have been a weird year - September in NorCal, Oregon, and Washington was spent struggling to breathe due to the worst wild fires ever we’ve ever had. Football would have been canceled no matter what.
Let’s hope this game still happens, gonna knock on wood.
Our AD numbers have been amazingly low across all sports so far. It'll be interesting if they can come thru Christmas break unscathed. It will probably be harder for the BB teams to make it through. A lot fewer numbers so if it get in there it could be a problem
Washington is the most hated rival, by a lot.
There is a small contingent of Oregon fans who consider Oregon State to be a bigger rival. Same with Washington and Washington State. Both get satisfaction from how much the State schools hate them while they patronizingly wish them well for most of the year.
Washington and Oregon have a long history of trying to screw the other one over. Not just on the field competition, more like “we will destroy your football program and backstab you every chance we get” type of competition.

Asked why he kept his starters in and lost his two star players late in the game to season ending injuries Washington’s coach said 66 is more than 59.
What evils has Iowa committed? How deep is the hate? I perused one of their boards after the Fiesta Bowl announcement, and they think Oregon sucks, so I’m not a fan. How about K-State? I think Farmageddon is a pretty awesome name for a football game.

For me it's the taildraggers. In 1948 Oregon tied with Calif for the league title. The Rose Bowl bid went to Calif when Wash split from the other three NW schools and voted for Cal to go to the Rose Bowl. Up until that time the 4 NW schools had stuck together and the 4 Calif schools had stuck together. Ever since that vote the rivalry has grown.
As for the Beavs, they are only 42 miles away and are very different culturally. Oregon tends to pull students from more urban environment, where OSU pulls from the rural areas (aggie tech). It's a natural rivalry. Historically, Oregon is where you go for degrees in business, journalism, architecture, pre-med, law where as OSU is aggie, oceanography, physics.
All 3 of my sisters went to OSU, my high school graduation was held in Gill Coliseum at OSU. And I can tell you I got "that look" from my parents when I said I was going to Oregon.
One more on the puppies, so you can imagine the first thing going through Duck fans minds when it was announced that the taildraggers were going to pull out of this years game against the Ducks at Autzen Stadium due to Covid and as a result they would be awarded the PAC-12 North title and would play in the conference championship game. Ducks winning that game would have made Oregon the northern division champs and sent Oregon to the championship game. As it worked out we still got there and took care of business with the trojans.
Iowa is like, 97% white. Not a ton of diversity in the state, especially if you get outside of the Des Moines and Waterloo areas. It’s improved a little over time, but my graduating high school class of 500 kids had I think 11 non-white kids?

FWIW ISU not playing Iowa was fine. It's fun for the state (sort of) and all but what ISU fans have a hard time convincing Iowa fans that there's more to the season so this was a good season to show that.
Agree with your points about Covid...if you're going to try to play, have a plan that allows for some flexibility.
And iirc the NY6 bowls have a back up plan to be made up if there's issues although I'm not sure how long that's extended.
In short Iowa and ISU were rivals forever to a point where the football game got cancelled.
The evil...Iowa refused to renew the rivalry unless it was only in Iowa City.
When it did renew, ISU went downhill while Iowa became decent under Hayden Fry (don't know who he is? Don't tell Iowa fans that) and he played the 'big fish in a small pond' bit to a T, was a tried and true bully. Their fans were relentlessly belligerent about it and still are. ISU beat them in '98 for the first time in 15 years and Iowa fans still say the game is ISU's 'Super Bowl' even though ISU hasn't played well in that game forever.
They're still a rival and it's still pretty intense although if you move out of state it's hardly noticeable.
With round robin scheduling that the B12 found itself in, imo there's been more hatred toward teams like Baylor and Texas.
I am a transplant, so my point of view will be a little different. I was born in Alabama (Birmingham), Graduated from High School in Florida (Orlando) and graduated from Iowa State after 4 years in the Army. After 5 years in Iowa, I took my degree and moved around the country before moving back after 25 years. So, I am back in Des Moines for the past two seasons.
From a personal (day to day) point of view, not that big of a deal with Iowa fans, as most of us have both Cyclones and Hawkeyes in the family. For example, my wife is from a solid multi-generational Iowa State family, but her brother and a niece found their way to Iowa City. We still love 'em, but avoid them one day a year. lol. However, I admit, I am a transplant, I didn't have to grow up with them, and I lived in Ames for 5 years and I live in Des Moines now - so I've never had to daily deal with "Tavern Hoks" as an adult.
From a football point of view, it is salty, but not as bad as some in-state rivalries since they are in separate conferences. They didn't play for 40 years, which was before my time, but I do remember when they started playing again in the '70s (from afar as a kid in Birmingham). I actually saw Iowa State for the first time in the 1978 Hall of Fame Bowl @ Legion Field and became a fan at that time - even though I was living deep in Bear Bryant Alabama.
Iowa State was good in the 70s under Johnny Majors and Earl Bruce and went to 4 Bowl Games (1971 Sun, 1972 Liberty, 1977 Peach and 1978 HOF Classic @ Legion Field). In 1976, Iowa State was a win away (@ Okla. State in the final game) from winning the Big 8 and going to the Orange Bowl. I was not an ISU fan yet, but nobody in Alabama liked Nebraska or Oklahoma, so Iowa State winning the Big 8 would have been groovy. Turns out Colorado won the complicated tie-breaker that sent the Buffaloes to the Orange Bowl that year, and ISU slipped from 1st to 5th and No Bowl even with an 8-3 record!
So, they decided to play again, but Iowa would only do it if the first 4 games were in Iowa City. Iowa State agreed and were Upset by a terrible Iowa team in 1977 (the Hawkeye program was in the midst of a 19 consecutive non-winning season streak, and ISU played in the Peach Bowl that year). Didn't help that Iowa State had BEAT IOWA on the front of their jerseys. lol. They split the 4 game in IC (2-2).
After the 1978 season is when things really changed. Earle Bruce left Iowa State for Ohio State, and Bob Cummings was fired at Iowa. The Cyclones started their slide down, and the Hawkeyes rose from the ashes. However, it took the Cy-Hawk series a few years to catch on to the trend. Fry won his first game 30-14 in 1979, but he lost the next three to Iowa State including his 1981 B1G Champions (that were shut out by the Huskies in the Rose Bowl) losing 23-12 in Ames. That would be the last loss for Iowa in Ames until 1999 (I was there!). The Cyclones tacked on another win in 1982 @ Iowa for their third straight win, but that was it for a while. Hayden's Hawkeyes won 15 in a row until his last year as coach in 1998!
I officially joined the rivalry as a student in 1989. Ugly, ugly times for Iowa State football (1989 season was decent but the '90s sucked). Did not end until an amazing Upset @ Iowa in 1998 that ended the infernal streak at 15. Then, Iowa State won 5 in a row including giving the 2002 B1G Co-Champion Hawkeyes their only loss in the Regular Season in Iowa City. However, Iowa did get thumped by Pete Carroll's first great USC team in the Orange Bowl.
Iowa has won 5 in a row again including nut crunching losses in the last two games in Ames that ISU controlled throughout but Iowa found a way to win in 2017 (44-41 in OT) and 2019 (18-17). After the 2019 game, there was a brouhaha due to some interaction between the Iowa Band trying to march out of the stadium in formation blaring their fight song after a multi-delayed (weather X2) all-day affair that left everybody in a foul mood. I left after the 2nd weather delay and watched the end of the game at home.
The ironic part is that Iowa A.D. Gary Barta really made an ass out of himself over the whole thing (talking about cancelling the series because it was "Unsafe" @ Ames, etc.) , but he had to defend Iowa State being ranked so highly in the CFP Ranking this year. I must admit that he was 100% fair, defended Iowa State by their merits with absolutely no left handed compliments. Pissed off Iowa and Indiana (not a rival) fans though! lol Perhaps, the year off is good for the series, plus ISU gets back to back home games to make up a bit for the 4 straight at IC from 77-80?
Personally, I did not miss the game this year. I do like the fact they play and realize that it is a GREAT Day in the State of Iowa on Gameday. The entire state is ablaze with cardinal, gold and black and gold, and I love that part of it! However, I care more about what Iowa State does in the Big Xii than whether they win that game or not.
As for Farmageddon, it is Iowa State's oldest remaining rivalry and one of the longest continuously played FBS rivalries. When I was in school, K-State was still an easy win, but that was when Bill Snyder first arrived in Manhattan. The past 25 years have been hard, and Iowa State has way too many heart breaking losses to mention. Let's just say we fans enjoyed the 45-0 win this year in Ames, and ISU still leads the series!
Mizzou was a real rivalry lost when the Tigers moved to the SEC. Had a Telephone Trophy that is stuck in Columbia for now. This was a fun rivalry in both football and men's basketball. Most Iowa State fans (especially the cradle to grave ones) despise Mizzou, but I don't. That's a Native Iowa dislike that I do not share. Interestingly, my last two ISU-Mizzou games saw Troy Davis run for 378 yards in 1996 and Seneca Wallace set an all-purpose yardage record (493 total yards) in the 2002 game.
Nebraska was also a long played series that went away, but it was only a geographical rivalry amongst fans in Western Iowa-Nebraska. The Cornhuskers hold such a large series lead and would not deign to consider Iowa State (or any other team not named Oklahoma) a rival not even for a short period. ISU always had a way of annoying them though including the galactic Upset in 1992 (I was there!) that was Tommie Frazier's ONLY Big 8 Conference loss as a starter during a particular great Nebraska span (92-95). Plus, Iowa State won their last visit to Lincoln in 2009!
So, that is my opinion as a transplant. Fellow Cyclones, please feel free to add, correct, update and / or fill in any blanks I missed or stated incorrectly.

Go over to the interstate rivals forum on this board and see for yourself. They are persistent little pissants. If you have grown up in Iowa and were around during the ISU football dark ages, then you have a different perspective. I was personally razed bad as kid for wearing a Troy Davis jersey to school and will forever loathe those pricks from the east. Most of them aren’t even Iowa Alumni!! They buy they garb from local Walmart’s and then call themselves fans and cannot wrap their puny minds around the fact that we are now good at football. They run a trash program (do a dive into their coaching messes, note the plural). They a garbage program from a garbage down and have no sense of perspective whatsoever.

When ISU was getting good in the 70s, the Hawkeyes thr a hissy fit and cancelled the series. ISU then had our coaches go on to bigger programs and made some bad hiring choices, presidents that didn’t care about sports/ADs that didn’t care about football, as well as scholarship penalties, while Hayden Fry was a master marketer. By the time I was old enough to really see and understand football (late 80s/early 90s) the Hawkeyes had become the premiere marketed program in the state. They somehow even convinced Iowans how great they are for the farming community (obviously big in Iowa) despite the fact that ISU is one of the top agriculture schools in the country.
Anyway, it took a literal act of Congress to force the teams to play again. Iowa dominated for 15 years. ISU then reeled off 5 straight and it kind of went back and forth since then (though they’ve been a thorn in Campbell’s side recently).
The fan base is just ridiculously arrogant, aggressively violent, belligerent and fairly unknowledgeable. For example, the Hawkeye fan friend of mine is always the first to rub it in my face when they beat us, but can never name a single player on the team.
While the rivalry is good for the state and not going anywhere, I’d personally be more than happy to drop them so we could get other home and aways vs P5 teams elsewhere. It’s a no win for us.
I grew up a Hawkeye and converted myself over in the late 90s. I’ve since converted a good number of my family after I attended ISU. My brother, who I converted from being a heavy Iowa fan, regularly comments on how he can now see how awful their fans are.

Only had limited time in Oregon but the state vs. state hatred via license plate seems very strong.

The great thing about Iowa fans is that they always talk about how great their school is because of the med and law schools when that makes up like 3-4% of their enrollment. Chicago suburbanite baristas with Liberal Arts degrees are probably their dominant demographic.
We went 12-0 against the leghumpers and I still looked forward to that game more than the Beavers.
