Really, eff that guy. Dumb me all you want, but he made his choice and I, if nobody else at least, have moved on. Love the times we had, but that time is gone and past.
As is the case virtually 100% of the time in these changes, find the money to make it happen.
Sometimes. Sometimes not. Would DeVries even want to come to Ames? Is he holding out for Fran's retirement? Does he want to be a lifer at Drake like Jacobson at UNI?
I like Devries. I think he could get recruiters to help him with recruiting. He did well enough recruiting at Creighton to help them become a top 15 team. I think TJ is a heck of a recruiter but is his system pretty much what we do now? Drake actually plays an exciting style of basketball also. It's not like UNI where is kind of mid major boring.
I get why people like TJ, but I also think that a lot of people who think he’s the better choice are letting emotions get involved a bit too much. Prohm is the perfect example of why that shouldn’t happen. We all know Prohm is a great guy, but he flat out can’t coach. I see the TJ connection as something similar, a guy people like who has ties to the program. While TJ would likely be a superior coach compared to Prohm, I want a proven winner, and that is clearly DeVries.
Devries, TJ doesnt do anything for me. He is basically CSP.
Any coach will be a crap shoot. Hopefully JP wins the lottery with whomever he targets (ala Campbell).
Don't forget Dresser.
Also, although it's not discussed much, I think selecting and managing the assistants is a major part of a head coach's job. Hoiberg knew that so brought in an experienced head coach to help him get started. Do you think that Campbell would have the success he has without Heacock?
JP's last interview question would have to be--"Did Greg start buying players at Creighton after you left?"
The last great Drake coach is 60-91 in conference in the MAC.
I think DeVries is a better coach than Keno but he is far from a lock for success. I doubt he would have any opportunities at a P5 school after this year so I'm guessing he would come if given an offer by JP.

Otz. Longer head coaching record, NCAA tourney and conference champs in his record. Long history of recruiting at power conference level which is one thing I worry about with Devries.
I know he is older and might not want to leave Va Tech but Mike Young is a really good coach.

He was their coach for 1 year and took over his dad's roster. Flash in the pan risk was always high with Keno.
No, the last great Drake coach died coaching at ISU. Devries is definitely not at the level Maury John had Drake at but he has a far better track record than Keno Davis.
