3rd the Skywalk barber place. Paul is a new guy and is great. I've never got as many compliments on a haircut. Cash only. 17$. Also open Saturday mornings which is nice.

Be there to walk in the door when the barbers do or be prepared to spend your morning there (which isn't terrible it's a chill place).
I'm not really going to be in a rush. Figured I'd drop in at 10.....probably 1-1.5 hour wait?
Bump to field report on Franklin Plaza:
Dropped in at noon on Friday, only about a 45 minute wait. Shot the breeze with the other guys waiting and the barbers. Had some free coffee, noticed their fridge was stocked with PBRs and other brews.
Got what is probably the best haircut I've ever had. Straight razor on the neck, trimmed my brows.
Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a true barber experience. Plus, it was only $18.

Fair enough....but I also had no urgent plans for the day and the banter in the shop made the wait breeze by. Much different than sitting in great clips for an hour waiting on 90 kids to get cut before you.
This thread might be what finally makes me switch off of Great Clips. I'm in Ames so I don't plan on driving down to Des Moines just for a haircut, but it might be time to move on. I've heard Sport Clips is pretty good.
Go to SportsClips and have Sara the manager cut your hair, u won't be disappointed.
