Dekkers Time

With this season, with the high expectations we had, winning or losing the remaining games no longer makes a difference. No matter what Campbell says, literally everyone set the goal at playing for a conference championship again. I've said it too many times already -- we returned almost the most players in all FBS, including a veteran QB and Heisman-candidate RB. Of course expectations were high. They deserved to be high. The players agree, and they're disappointed too.

So, try and be honest and not lie to yourself about this assumption: an overwhelming majority of Iowa State fans will feel the same in two months as they do now no matter what happens with our remaining games. Win or lose, doesn't actually matter. We took the step back already. It's over. It's not the end of the world, but it is our objective reality. Disappointment wins.

I was already there before the OU game, which is why I was saying before I hope Dekkers starts, and as a result collected all the DUMB emojis that could be dumped on me. This post will get 'em too. Mostly everyone here will call starting Dekkers dumb -- but then be totally fine with it if Campbell makes that choice.

"But Brock deserves it!" is not a real argument. Coaches start who gives them the best chance to win. Which yeah, makes sense if that's Brock now. But starting Dekkers gives us a better chance to win next year too, which does matter to me. Cause, as already stated, this season no longer matters. Hurt feelings don't matter either. This isn't the first time a starter would feel hurt by sitting. And it wouldn't mean we don't love him. We all love Purdy, and his accomplishments are undeniable, but leaving him in only helps his feelings but accomplishes nothing else.

People can pretend to disagree but after this game, I don't buy it. You don't care actually about the rest of this season, but if you could buy extra wins next year, you would. Starting Dekkers now gives that chance. Plus, it's entertaining as hell to throw in a new QB, no matter what the result.

But, you know, DUMB! and other reaction gifs calling me an idiot. Proceed!

I do hope that if Brock had a concussion today that they roll with Dekkers as the TCU starter. But if Purdy is really ok, i think it’s important to give him that last home game start as a send off.
