DeAndre Kane visiting next week

As posted above, Tim Floyd did it to fill a depleted roster back in the 90s. Difference was the supply of transfers available. There are something like 450 transfers in NCAA today. That is a lot of inventory from which to pick. You don't think Floyd would have taken some more transfers if he could have?

I don't think it was innovation. I think it was timing. We needed bodies at the same time a lot were available. He didn't have to scour the juco ranks. He could get talent by taking transfers instead. Yes, it's rare. But so was his situation.
Fred's situation- taking over a downtrodden programs is not rare. How he rebuilt it is. There was not a lot of precedent in choosing to give that many roster spots to guys that had to sit. Floyd did it with unheralded juco's and only two transfers. There were transfers available then, as there are now. To suggest TF would have done what Fred did is truly adding the wrong narrative.

Didnt our own AD bemoan the "transfer culture" in 2009 or 2010? You would think this would indicate some type of change in the number of transfers since the 90s. I would assume this would mean an increase in transfers since then. You seem to think maybe he was just highlighting an age-old practice?

Like I said, Hoiberg was in an unusual situation. What he did that one year to rebuild was unusual.

So, you believe that Floyd (who accepted two transfers and two juco players to build his roster) would not have accepted 1-2 more transfers if he could have got them. "What? You want to transfer to ISU? No, sorry. I already have two on the roster. I would rather have "unheralded" juco players. You will have to go elsewhere."

Considering our transfers were from South Alabama and New Orleans that year, I doubt we had a lot of players from high major schools calling. THAT is what is different. Fred has a cache that attracts players. We beat Kentucky for Royce White. How often have we gone head-to-head with Kentucky and won? That is the Fred Factor.

I hope he enjoys Iowa State University, and signs a financial aid agreement very soon! He will be a big time player!!!

Haha...would that make this the most anti climactic thread ever if he never showed up...and said "Yeah im going to Pitt...thanks".
You ARE still here. Just couldn't answer my questions.

Memphis just picked up a commitment from a high school player. I think that puts them at the scholarship limit.

Well, all of our scholarships appear to be spoken for as well, but we seem to be willing to make room.

Anyone else thinking Naz Long's scholly could be up for grabs since we have Morris coming in this year and Custer coming in next year? That would make sense to me, but what the hell do I know?

I want him, but should we expect him to be as productive in the Big 12? I mean he didn't exactly play against top notch competition, how is his game going to translate to Big 12 level competition?

There was really no need for you to go there. Speculating about current players' scholarships is tasteless.

How 'bout if we wait to see if Fred wants him/he commits first?

Couldnt you say the same about Clyburn before he got here

If I would have posted this.....we would be on page 50 by the end of the night.

if I had a nickel.....id guess that one of our 4 jucos don't make it....no info at all...but just playing the odds.

No, because the Mountain West had good teams like BYU, San Diego State, UNLV, and New Mexico that year. The MAC didn't have any teams as good as those.

I have no idea who's scholarship Kane would take, but my prediction is that from now on, Hoiberg is done recruiting HS players that aren't top-100 caliber players. He'll take HS players like Niang, Vaughn, Thomas, Morris, Custer, etc, but I think he goes back to Juco's and transfers instead of reaching on HS players like Sledge, Percy, Okoro, Naz, etc.

Just my $0.02

All our signed players have picked numbers for next season, so I'm pretty sure they all plan on making it to campus. Not that being assigned a number makes is concrete that they are coming or anything. If Kane does sign with us i would assume his scholarship is from one of the current players on the roster from last season, not the new guys coming in.
