He already has his degree, so maybe he just overestimated how much he still wanted to play football and pursue a graduate degree. Good news for him is that even without anymore football in his future he does have his degree from Michigan which is going to be more important to him in the future then playing another year of of P5 NCAA football.
I understand the basketball graduate transfers more than football transfers. In hoops it's a chance to play with a winner, maybe move up to a P5 league and perhaps get to play some pro ball overseas. In football, it's a LOT of hard work without any promise of pro overseas reward. If you don't love the **** out of playing football it just doesn't make sense to do it.
