David Ubben Thinks ISU starts 3-0

Ten fearless predictions for 2011: ESPN

Ubben:

5. Iowa State will beat Iowa in Ames and start the season 3-0. Seneca Wallace would be proud. Steele Jantz and the Cyclones notch their first victory in the rivalry since 2007, then follow it up with a Friday night road win against a depleted UConn team.

I can honestly see this happening. It would be a huge win against Iowa and then going into the conference undefeated would be a huge boost of morale and confidence.

Forwarding that blog post to a couple Hawk lovers in my office instantly created a firestorm of high blood pressure fueled rage. Nice work Ubbs.

Here's one response, verbatim:

That’s some hard hitting analysis behind that prediction.

I also think we'be got a great chance of starting 3-0. UConn and Iowa are both very winnable.

Come on now, this isn't HawkeyeNation, or even the In-State Rivals forum. 99% of us here would be happy with winning 6 games this year and eventually averaging 8 wins over a long stretch - and you think a 3-0 start is going to get us thinking national title, especially when we've got OU, OSU, and Mizzou on the schedule?

Like I said, you're mixing up fan bases...

That is what I am saying too.... Has Ubben' view of us changed? Seems different to me...

That would be huge. It would be very exciting to see what a Rhoads team could do with that kind of momentum coming into the conference season. Picking up at least 3 more wins would seem very doable

I predict one better yet... we start the season 4-0, after winning the first three we take a week off and come back to beat Texas for the second year in a row!

He's always been a big CPR fan (but who isn't). Does seem like he had more good things to say about us after the QB controversy was resolved. Maybe he seems something in Jantz?
