David Sims charged

Don't worry, here it is.

Fulmer Cup Dynasty - SAS Wiki

Now, the initial argument was wrong. You guys were in the top 5 last year but prior to that you had a 9th, 11th, and 24th so really it is not that bad :jimlad:\

In the dynasty scoring you are only 7th. Keep working at it and you may be able to catch our neighbors to the east.

Reading that link, I had to click on this guy's link:
Ellis T. Jones III - SAS Wiki

Wow! He earned himself a lifestyle change.

Unfortunately people who are intoxicated do all sorts of stupid crap. I'd much rather have my car door kicked in than my face kicked in.

Besides, in such a case where there is a clear-cut culprit, it's an easy matter of procuring funds to fix the car. When something like that happens and the culprit doesn't get caught ... that sucks. However, all the same, it still isn't that big of a deal. There's a reason why you have insurance.

Worst defense ever. This is I suppose why you have fraud protection on your credit card as well? So you don't have to cover it when someone steals your card and uses it? Sims is also paying back the victim after he was caught, I suppose that makes it ok? Or is it not OK because he wasn't intoxicated when he was doing it?

Good lord. I suppose you understand nothing about the power of symbols and loaded words. Many racial epithets are loaded with a lot of historical context that is interlaced with violence and hate.

If you have a child, I'm sure that you'd find it honky-dory if a sex-offender was saying obscene things to your child. From your response, I suppose that you'd find it terrible if a parent would punch a sex-offender in such an instance.

As for bringing up Iowa law. Do you honestly believe that a jury would convict?

Don't get me wrong, I don't believe that Clayborn made the correct choice. However, the problem is that I probably would have shown less restraint that Clayborn. So I suppose that I can understand his reaction. Fortunately, when juries are advised to consider what a reasonable person would do ... many of them wouldn't find the actions of Clayborn (or I) all that unreasonable.

A. The use of the n-word is alleged. I believe it probably happened, but it would be just as easy for me to assault someone claiming they called me a racial slur.

B. As a minority, yes, I have heard a slur being used towards me. I have never once thought... "Hmmm, I suppose that makes it ok for me to sucker punch the guy in the face". I don't give a crap what that person says, in a court of law, assault is assault.

Just an FYI, I am on record as saying if all the Sims charges are true, then just the stupidity alone would justify anything from 1-2 games to being booted, so you can take any Clone bias out of the equation.

I don't believe for a second that the racial slur was made. Who on earth is stupid enough to use the n-word towards an incredably huge, drunk football player? Maybe in a crowd situation, but not when someone is alone. It is just justification for what happened.

When you're racist, you're racist, I don't think the threat of being assaulted stops some people. I don't think it is nuts to think it could have happened. People are pretty stupid.

Why can't we all just be honest and admit it's all about trying to win. If Sims or Clayborn were bench-warmers they would both have been kicked off. I don't blame the coaches though, they don't get contract extensions for good behavior.

We really do need a governing body to oversee issues like this. It's hard to take conroll out of the coaches/colleges hands, but they have too much stock in what is going on on the field to always make the best decision.
KF and PR both need to win games, CPR moreso than KF simply because of the BigXII instability and unknown future for ISU 5-10 years down the road. 5-7 for ISU over the next 5 years could mean a world of difference compared to 7-5 each year over the same span. ISU just needs to win baby win because apparently 6 bowls over a 10 year span is not enough to change the national perspective that ISU is constantly a burden to whatever conference it is in. Our problem is going 6-6 or 7-5 two straight years, then going 5-19 the next two. When we are bad, we are BAD and it's hard to shed that stereotype.

Huh, missed that. That seems pretty weird to me. Why would he pay it back and then plead that. Perhaps there is more to this story than we know.

One theory I've heard was that he may be holding out for a better plea deal, and is simply pleading not guilty to buy himself more time to get it.

homerHawk, I see your location is Lincoln, Nebraska. I realize that Big Red and Big 10 are having a KUMBAYA moment, publically, over their upcoming marriage. Have you detected any 2nd thoughts fromn the locals as to what they are getting into? My perception here with the Nebbie fans in SWIa is that they expect to be on a level with Ohio St./Penn St./Mich. pretty much from the get go. Privately, they look at the rest of the Big 10 at a level below them. They are hoping that a Big 10 West divison eventually develops (Ia., Wisc. Minn. Ill. NW. Neb.?) that they would dominant very similarly like they did the Big 12 North. Around here with the Neb. fans it is all about finally getting away from Texas/Oklahoma. Essentially they think Mich. is weak, PennSt. has always been overrated and Ohio St. will be their only challenge. Otherwords trading two tough teams for one. What do you hear from them privately?

Your standard over-the-top Husker fans pretty much is entering the picture exactly as you said.

My immediate in-laws, who also live in Lincoln, are more respectful ... while not saying a word one way or another about Iowa, they are already whispering about the Huskers returning to the form of the their dynastic past.

The crux of things is that Bo Pelini is not speaking a lot more like Tom Osborne these days and the locals are absolutely eating it up. The very fact that Bo has stated that the 2010 D should be better than the 2009 D has Husker fans believing that as if it were gospel.

And, from my wife's (male) cousins ... they claim that the Huskers will walk all over Iowa. Of course, I think that a healthy dose of that is good old-fashioned smack-talk. However, considering that I'm not a smack-talker and that the jabs where unsolicited ... I'm inclined to think that they believe it for the most part.

Lastly, much of what I've heard about PSU has been rather respectful. A lot of what I hear is more about them thinking that PSU could end up eventually becoming a big rival for them. While few of them are truly dismissive of teams like PSU, Iowa, and Wisconsin ... I will agree that I'm under the impression that many Nebraska fans seem to think that things will be easier for them in the Big 10 than in the Big 12.

Reality check will hit next year....

I don't know. I think that it kind of depends on the year. Some years the Big 12 is crazy-strong. Other years, the Big 10 is really strong. I think that both conferences have a pretty good track record of placing 2 conference teams into BCS bowls.

I frankly wouldn't be shocked if the Big 10 opted NOT to break the conference down into divisions. I could see them simply opting to have the top 2 teams in the conference end up laying for the conference title.

In that case, I think that that could end up being really disadvantageous to the Huskers. While they have a fine program, I do believe that the Big 10 is not comprised of the patsies that many Husker fans seem to believe.

What's this have to do with David Sims ?

I'm not saying it's right, but if he can delay this thing long enough, ala Adrian Clayborn, then that would be ideal for him.

You still get to play your senior season while the justice system works this out, and then after the season is over you can settle this matter. Also, it won't matter to NFL teams much that he did this IMO.

I know that's not morally the best thing to do, but it's perfectly legal and enables him to play. If it's good enough for Clayborn and Iowa, it's has to be good enough for us. To compete with the big boys, sometimes you have to act like them as well.
