David Sims charged

No.

"County attorney Stephen Holmes declined to comment on whether or not this meant Sims would be pleading guilty to the credit card charge at the initial appearance. Sims’ attorney could not be reached."

Ah whoops. Completely missed that sentence. :)

Saw this "Sims will be required to submit a written arraignment including a waiver of time for sentencing and a plea of guilty prior to the hearing." and thought that meant he was pleading guilty. Thanks for the correction.

According to the Ames Trib article, there won't be a trial. Apparently he's pleading guilty?

Ames Tribune > Ames Tribune > News

Or is this already out-of-date?

And no...as a Hawk fan I'm not relishing in this kid's stupid mistake. Drives me crazy when these kids do stupid things like this and put their futures in jeopardy.

Well if he pleds guilty he earns a bit more respect in my book. Hopefully this will be taken care of before the season opener.

They aren't saying it specifically. But I think that's what's expected to happen

If this is the case, the court order says, Sims will be required to submit a written arraignment including a waiver of time for sentencing and a plea of guilty prior to the hearing.

Neither party is probably going to comment on what will happen - until it actually happens. Why corner oneself?

Still possible for sure. Get it over with so he can focus on football.

Rhoads said that this morning. My understanding is that a charge wasn't made until this afternoon. Rhoads this morning said "we'll know more soon...". He may even have given a time period.

I could go pull quotes but I'm too lazy. And having actual facts may mess up your overtly sarcastic sentence above.

No, Rhoads said, worst-case scenario, he is still a part of this team. And there is no way this is the worst case scenario, and absolutely no way CPR was blindsided by the charges today. The actual facts support what I said, and show why I used an overtly sarcastic tone. Think about it for a second, OK?

He lost his Title of Team Captain. Hopefully this hurts and the other players see how bad it hurts Sims. Then this will be a learning experience for all.

I'd actually bet that Rhoads was working WITH the county attorney. Kind of coincidental that the charges didn't come out until the day AFTER ISU shows up at Big 12 Media Days and the arraignment lands four days BEFORE ISU Media Day. This thing is going to be done and out of the way prior to CPR meeting with the press. Otherwise, Sims makes that a huge sideshow.

Plea bargain down to guilty of 2nd degree on Monday, Sims runs a bunch, goes on probation, does a bunch of community service and misses either a half game or one whole game. We'll know the whole thing by Tuesday night.

Please point to a quote from me where I said "He won't be part of the team". I never said he wouldn't be part of the team. My comment was on play time this YEAR.

How about you actual READ what I write for a change?

And now for the facts.

This article is from 8 pm last night:

Iowa State football: David Sims is still Cyclones' top safety | desmoinesregister.com | The Des Moines Register

No charges had been filed yet.

And Here, Rhoads says we'll know more in 24-48 hours. Again, from yesterday.

Iowa State Football: Notes from Big 12 Media Day | Cyclone Fanatic

What do you think Rhoads is going to say when nothing has even been filed yet? Standard coach speak.

I'd suspend him for two games at least.

It has to be something that hurts. I'm sure missing the Iowa game would hurt quite a bit.

If he doesn't miss any games at all, I think that sends the wrong message completely... and I'd be a little worried that Ames would turn into IC. Had KF punished guys more severely from the start, I don't think they'd have as big a problem over there as they do.

I don't see what punishment levels have to do with conference affiliation.

I don't think he should be kicked off. Reread what I said. It was in relation to this seasons play time.

His point was that you're in the Big 12, home of Texas and Oklahoma, ie: big time football. If you are unwilling to tolerate some of this kind of thing (by tolerate I mean suspend them for a game or two, but not kick them off the team), then you give yourself no chance to compete in a big time conference. Which is why he said what he said.

If he's suspended for any amount of games, we won't know until the defense takes the field against Northern Illinois. He'll be listed as #1 on the depth chart until then.

I'm inclined to think that handling things internally will amount to no games suspended, but we'll see.

Removing the co-captain label was the right thing to do. Not really sure how I feel about a possible suspension. The high school player in me that saw teammates screw up and coaches look the other way thinks he should be suspended. The fan in me wants to look the other way just like the high school coaches.
