Cytown Update

I'm still trying to understand why the restaurant/bars are on the south end opposed to north by the venue. Really my only complaint about the project

I'd generally agree. My only thought is they may feel that's the best for it on non-gamedays, being closer to the main road there.

But on any day there's an event in hilton\scheman that you're hoping to get traffic from, you'd definitely be better having that within a shorter walk from those buildings.

I’m not sure if you’re thinking the F&B anchor, located next to McFarland and along Jack Trice Way will be the only restaurant/bar but all of the buildings (other than McFarland will most likely have a F&B tenant a long with retail & office so there should be F&B options through the entire area.

My thought is more if they could have those by the outdoor venue the rooftops/patios would be really appealing for any of the (for lack of a better term) no-name bands playing live music shows.

With your points being my secondary reasoning.

Hopefully you're right but that's not how I read that list or the map that seems finalized.

Good Lord. I have a longer walk in the parking lot at at Olive Garden on a busy night. I'm nitpicking but go out to eat or drink inn any moderately sized downtown (Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, hell even Waterloo) and you are walking a lot further to to your destination than the entire distance of Cytown. The nitpicking blows my mind.

Read my other posts, don't care about the walk and have been an avid supporter of CyTown.

There will be other food and beverage options besides the main anchor. Retail is Retail and F&B, they just arent going to put all that on the labels on a low detail rendering.

Think the main anchor being a large sports bar brewery etc. and the other F&B places being similar to Freddys on Lincoln, and Welch Ave station, or Pizza Pit etc. Not saying those places exactly but that size of place. I could see a deli type place like McAlisters. I have been to several sports bar type places that fit in a small retail strip. I would guess there will be a coffee place

It wont be all food and beverage, but I would guess there will be a variety of options, with about a total of 5 places for one type of food or beverage, give or take.

I would also guess there may be another restaurant in the hotel when built, at least there would be that option.

People really need to look at TitleTown and see what it is modeled after.

As long as there is a clear bag policy and ample Scotcharoos for people to stuff in their clear bag, Cyclone fans will be happy…

Unless you are trying to drive foot traffic past the retail and/or split the distance with the Jack.

Well considering I live here, I have. And I'm not saying it's some random podunk town, but the population drops dramatically once the spring semester ends and there are just less people in town.

Going back to CyTown, my concern is the ROI. There's a lot of money going into the project and other than football and maybe basketball weekends, it's hard for me to see the place being packed on a random evening in June.
So do I. And every weekend we have Shrine Bowl, Odyssey of the Minds, Special Olympics, Iowa Summer Games, 4-H Youth Conference, Freshman Orientations (with their families usually in tow), and this year Post Malone and I assume concerts will continue. The summer weekend traffic is always busy in town.

April 7 - state jazz championships (60 high school bands)
April 11 - stadium concert (60,000+)
April 19-21 - State FFA

May 14-16 - ISU graduation ceremonies
May 21-23 - Special Olympics
May 26-30 - Odyssey of the Mind

ISU orientation takes up a big chunk of June

July 10-12 - Iowa Games
July 17 - stadium concert
This. Sorry, I didn't see your post.

Better selection than Cy's Locker room, Rally House in Ames beats both of them. I don't even bothering checking out Cy's Locker room anymore, just head right to Rally House better selection and larger sizes.

The last time we stopped at Cy's Locker Room we were incredibly disappointed with their generic selection. Scheels sucks too. Iowa State's retro logo's are awesome yet these places just keep slapping out generic Nike shirts that lack any sort of character.

I'm pretty confident that there's a lot of misinformed people out there who are mad about this project because they were convinced it would be a literal copy of KC Live in the Power and Light District in KC with nothing but bars and restaurants, and then when the renderings came out, they thought they were lied to the whole time and it was all Pollards fault.

I completely agree but to be fair that's kind of how it was initially presented. The current plans also look a lot different than what JP originally presented too. People need to get over that thoguh because it's been very clear for a few years now that Cytown was probably going to have 1 or 2 food/bar establishments and that's it.

Considering basketball and wrestling make up a lot of the big events in Hilton I do think it's odd that they are putting the food and bev on the south side. When it's freezing cold your parking pass holders aren't going to want to go out of their way. IMO this would have been better on the north end.
