My understanding is they haven’t been able to have 5 on 5 practices for quite some time so it probably is a challenge to try to develop a practice plan. I can’t hold anyone accountable for lack of success this year.
Smart move would be to give him one more year. That’s assuming the players are all on board (at least most players). I think JP is in good position to make the call. If we go another route that’s fine too.
I think minus very few instances, coaches shouldn't be judged based on normal expectations during a covid year. Imagine being a student athlete during these times.
Rational person:
First year.......good
Second year.......good
Third year......rebuild
Fourth year......good
Fifth year......bad
Sixth year......pass
Irrational person:
First year.....underachieve
Second year.....well, okay
Third year.....should be fired
Forth year.....underachieve
Fifth year.....should be fired
Sixth year.....should be fired
Congrats.........you are a rational person. Be careful however, there is more of the other than you and simply talk of giving Steve a pass this year are words that can and will cause a riot.
If this is Year 5, rather then Year 6, then maybe he gets a pass. To me his tenure was over after he lost to Florida AM at home on December 31, 2019. There were obviously other signs, but I think when he lost to a MEAC school in Hilton a lot of fans realized how bad this good get.
I disagree with year 4 and 6. Year 4 was not good considering what we had available. The KC part made it seem much better than it really was.
Year 6 is an absolute disaster. This is Ken Trickey (yes I was around then) level of competence. I struggle to see how next year is at a "good" level. Then it makes the body of work even more questionable.
Nothing against Steve, but I don't think he is, or will get the job done. That is how we are all measured in our job reviews.
We have spoken, and I thought 23 wins tourney hardware and an NCAA bid merited a "good" mark his 4th year. And 10 months later his tenure is over?
In Prohm's first two years, we were 22-14 in conference play. The last four years, we're 18-43.We’ve been bad 3 of the last 4 years. Pretty much ever since Fred’s players left.
FIFYRational person:
First year.......good, hopefully we can build on this success next season.
Second year.......good, but underachieved. Could've been better.
Third year......rebuilding year, even though we should've reloaded instead
Fourth year......Good, but underachieved. Aside from winning 3 games in 3 days in KC, horrible finish.
Fifth year......bad. Seat should be hot.
Sixth year......Should be fired at the end of the season.
Irrational person:
First year.....BETTER THAN HOIBERG!
Second year.....SILL BETTER THAN HOIBERG
Third year.....Rebuilding year, all is well!
Forth year.....PERFECT SEASON.
Fifth year.....HE NEEDS ANOTHER CHANCE. HIS RECRUITING CLASS.
Sixth year.....HIS FRESHMEN. *insert covid excuse here*
That's fine. Going from 13 wins to 23 along with tourney hardware and an NCAA bid in one year is considered "not good" in your book......okay. And this year you want to hold him accountable like it was a normal year....that's fine. I just put "pass" on the rational person side because I have seen many on here explaining protocol and restrictions as to why UNLV and others are having problems. I just figured it might be rational to think those same things might be affecting the ISU men's team just the same.
