- 3 winning seasons since the last time we were ranked and played a ranked opponent
- 17 wins in the last 5 years
- 9 home wins in the last five years and 34 home losses
- 3 losses to FCS opponents in the last five years
Half of iSu's alumni are hok fans because iSu has sucked. The other half moved out of state. One of my roommates in college grew up in an iSu house, was in the marching band, graduated with an engineering degree, lives near Iowa City and has Iowa season tickets. All my other roommates left the state and half of them want back to being hok fans because that is what they were growing up. I would say half the people in my major did the same. Of course we all attended iSu in the 90sThis is pretty dumb when Iowa State is 3.5 times the size of TCU and TCU's alumni base is far more spread out than Iowa State's. For example more than half of TCU's student body isn't even from Texas let alone the DFW area compared to about 2/3rds of Iowa State's being from Iowa.
Iowa State is the second-largest school in the Big 12 with the third-largest football stadium in the conference; there's really no reason it can't have the third-highest attendance for football when we have a successful team. That means 60k+.
The average fan sees it as another chance to get kicked in the nuts and mad plans after the Texas loss when people were claiming it was a huge must win gameYou see to me those are all reasons why your average ISU fan WOULD be at JTS on Saturday not reasons why they wouldn't.
Well it makes sense. Unit and iowa sell out their allotment. Our conference brethren do not so the tickets are returned and sold on a short turn around.I guess my point then let's acknowledge that it takes UNI and Iowa fans for us to sell out games.
We have a 52,000-55,000 base fanbase that basically shows no matter our performance. For a huge one off game like this weekend, I wish that we could get another 5-7k "fringe" fans for a sellout. I think we'll get close but its taken more effort (media and cheap tickets) to get there.
Nailed it. We went from being season ticket holders before kids and when they were younger, to making a few games a year, to being damn lucky if we'll make one this year. I listened to most of the OU game in my truck while finally getting caught up on errands because I hadn't been home a night all that week before because of meetings and kids activities.
I'd love to be there Saturday, but as someone else mentioned, the State XC meet is going on and my daughter's team qualified so that's where we'll be. I'm not bitter, and I'll enjoy freezing my ass off in Ft. Dodge watching them run. Life changes and so do your priorities. And anyone that scoffs at the notion that harvest doesn't have an effect on attendance doesn't really understand the concept of people's livelihoods having to come ahead of their entertainment.
That said, I hope those with the time and the means make the extra effort to get there and fill in for those of us that can't. This IS a huge deal for our football program and we need to show up. I predict there will be 56-58,000 butts in the seats.
Good luck to your daughter. Mine qualified but is forgoing the XC meet to swim Regionals. Unless ofNailed it. Many do prioritize drinking over supporting the program, yes. Once we need to pay more to retain CMC, they’ll be asked to modify their priorities some. After this comment all I want is a drink
Good luck to your daughter. Mine qualified but is forgoing the XC meet to swim Regionals. Unless ofyour daughters team is 1A. Then I hope all but your daughter fal taking out half the 1A field that isn't on my daughters team

The nuts kicks never stop coming though, that’s sports. It’s all relative. I know OSU fans here in Chicago that are still hurting over ANY loss as it hurt their NC chance. The average fan sees it as another chance to get kicked in the nuts and mad plans after the Texas loss when people were claiming it was a huge must win game
I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoyed most of the OU game while running errands. Priorities change as you go through life. There will be another point in my lifetime where I'll be able to make it to Ames for multiple games every fall, but not right now. Doesn't make me any more or less of a fan.

Yea, cause drinking is fun. Losing to UNI and NDSU isn’t fun.
Yeah I won't be surprised if pollard eliminated the leave at halftime stuff if we start to become a national relevant program. Right now that helps keep people on the seats, but if we're a good program and winning, people who wanna see good football over drinking at halftime will pay for a ticket too.

And DubuqueThere is a lot of engineers from ISU at John Deere in both Des Moines, Waterloo, and Quad Cities area.
Winning Saturday would be bonkers but I am not sweating a potential loss too much. Imagine the Campbell hype train then? No thanks.
