Creighton exhibition discussion (see post 178 for Jake's link)

Y'all realize this game doesn't matter right?

Haven’t seen a PG handling the direction of where/who gets the ball. I know exhibition but you think you ‘d work on the basics.

Something we’ve seen tonight that is consistent from last year - bigs who aren’t strong ball handlers putting the ball on the floor and getting their pockets picked. Those plays are momentum killers.

Not watching but doesn’t sound great. But not too concerned. Creighton is going to be really really good. Most definitely a better overall team than us on paper this season.

Yeah, hopefully this can be a wake-up call. We’ve seen these games in the Otz era, Pitt, Tech in the B12 tourney, etc. Jackson State. Okie State at home. I love the defensive identity but to win, you do have to score more points than the other team.
Those were actual games - it obvious with the line ups and line changes this is a glorified practice. Are they even keeping track of player fouls?

In post-Orr seasons, Iowa State MBB has shot 14,162 / 20,163 on free throws, 70.2%.

Per head coach:

Floyd 1995-1998: 2096/3056, 68.6%
Eustachy 1999-2003: 2631/3686, 71.4%
Morgan 2004-2006: 1271/1880, 67.6%
McDermott 2007-2010: 1593/2300, 69.3%
Hoiberg 2011-2015: 2458/3489, 70.4%
Prohm 2016-2021: 2280/3159, 72.2%
Otzelberger 2022-pres: 1833/2593, 70.7%

Our top five seasons in these years were:
#1 2021 Prohm, 78.3% (2-22)
#2 1995 Floyd, 75.7% (23-11)
#3 2025 Otz, 75.3% (25-10)
#4 2002 Eustachy, 74.8% (12-18)
#5 2020 Prohm, 74.6 (12-20)

No other seasons above 73.1%.

1998 was the worst at an impressive 64.2%. 2004 was also impressively bad, 65.3% as a team and that was with Jake Sullivan shooting about 1/8th of them at 93.3%. The rest of the team shot 61.2%!

I remember how jacked everyone was for those three worst teams in the last 25 years nailing those free throws.
