I looked back at the betting line archives all the way back to 1985. This week is the 1st time Iowa State will be a Touchdown or less underdog against a Top 10 team. They have obviously never been a favorite. The only 2 times the line has been 10 or less was Iowa in 2005--line was 9.5 and @Oklahoma in 2002--line was 8.5. Those outcomes were drastically different.

Bottom line, this is the best opportunity for Iowa State to win a game against a top 10 team in quite some time.

It's cool, but I honestly think it says more about Utah than it does about ISU.

Agreed. I'm not sure anyone has a handle on how good they really are.

Or this is the best time to make money by betting on Utah to cover :jimlad:

From Vegas insiders it is a popular bet. Watch the spread to see if it goes up. It started at 4 and jumped to 7. The last I heard it was at 6.

If I was in Vegas I'd be making that bet

Are you guys really referred to as "The U of U"? Because that has to be the stupidest name ever.
Generally just "The U". Miami is not "The U". There's no U in Miami. It's ridiculous they even call themselves that. There are archived publications with the University of Utah being referred to as "The U" before the University of Miami even existed. We were first to use it by several decades and we actually have a U in the initials outside of the word university. It drives us nuts to hear Miami constantly referred to as "The U". No other school should ever refer to itself as "The U". **** you, Miami!

That all may be true, but Miami is The U.
People in the Twin Cities refer to the University of Minn as The U as well.

 And ISU got stolen from us by any other university with the initials of I S U. Think I'll be ******* and cry about it.

lmao... comical. "we're the real U". miami can do whatever they want. they're the ones with the national titles.

From a Cyclone that is also a Coyote: the U for me will always be USD. You won't even find the letters S or D on their helmets. But the U is prominently displayed.

In all honesty, most Utah fans, myself included, don't really give a **** that Miami decided to start referring to themselves as "The U" 30 or so years ago. I was trying to be a bit over the top in my previous post. It was meant mostly in jest. The thing that does get under our skin is when fans of other programs around the country try to tell us we ripped Miami off if we refer to Utah as "The U" or throw up a 'U' with our hands at the game.

Just because Miami was a much higher profile and more successful program at the time college football popularity exploded does not erase 100+ years of using "The U". We've been "The U" and throwing up U's for many decades longer than Miami. While I'm quite certain Miami didn't copy Utah or try to rip anyone off when they started that stuff, Utah has been doing it longer and we're not going to stop because Miami won a few championships running one of the filthiest programs in college football history.

Utah originated "The U", period. That is factually provable. If Miami or Minnesota or anyone else without a U in their name wants to call themselves "The U" and throw up U's after touchdowns or whatever, it's fine by me as long as nobody tries to tell me Utah ripped it off.

Sorry, you lose this one. You don't even mention "The U" in your school fight song like The U of M does.

That's exactly what the Texas Tech spread did.

"The U" can refer to pretty much any state school that starts with "University"

University of Indiana
University of Iowa
University of Minnesota
University of Kansas
University of Miami

are just some of the schools I've heard referred to as such. You don't own it, the same way as ISU can refer to:

Iowa State University
Indiana State University
Illinois State University
Idaho State University

Get over yourselves, Utah.
