Correct. In my experience, as the quantity of one goes up, the quality of the other goes down.
How do you know? You have to assess. Most traditional college students don't have the "quantity and quality" of education that the degree is supposed to represent because the assessment isn't trustworthy. If the assessment is trustworthy, then it really doesn't matter how you got it, just whether you have it. Competency-based education is going to rock the higher education world.
Basically this allows the school to charge less than for a class, but make money with very little manpower spent. It is like printing money for them.
It proves that universities are in the academic credential business, not the education business! They make their money, not by offering instruction, but by giving credit and degrees for the learning they assess (sometimes well and sometimes not so well).
