Coaching Changes [officially offseason]

Re: Coaching Changes [officitally offseason]

Our class is currently the worst ranked power 5 class & tied with South Alabama who just finished their 3rd season as a division 1 FBS team.

Well that is pretty much the most depressing thing I have read this week.
Holy crap do we need to find a way to bring in some talent.

Anyone have a quick link that helps track overall recruiting per school that isn't subscription based?

South Alabama has a football team?

There is a university called "South Alabama?"

Oy. That IS depressing.

I hate to double-down on the misery but this is as low as I've ever felt about Cyclone football and I sat through the 80's and 90's with the good folks in section D, upper west deck.

We have a coach who, IMO, has quit, but we can't afford to buy him out. We have a staff that desperately needs changes but no one will touch a job here with a 10 foot pole. And we have the lowest-ranked recruiting class in Power 5 coming in.

I just don't see any way to recover from this. In fact, I would say there is ZERO chance of a turn-around. I'm afraid those who said the SEZ was pointless because the stadium will be empty are going to be right, although maybe not for the reasons they thought.

This is setting up to just be a perfect storm.

So much for improving thru the recruiting process.....Goodbye CPR

Re: Coaching Changes [officitally offseason]

Numbers will be skewed more negative than normal because we won't be signing many kids due to a small senior class.

Spots will open (transfers, guys quit in our program). OR you can over recruit your current roster and improve it? Might be a good idea.

They are going bowling this year, their THIRD season as a D-1 FBS program.

I don't think CPR makes any changes going into his "make-or-break" year.

Your entitled to your opinion, but I disagree. Rhoads hasn't quit. If he wasn't motivated then he would have bolted for Pitt when he had the chance.

There's something to be said about Rhoads' character for being honest with where the program is and where he expects it to be. I think you have to give Rhoads a shot at rebuilding. If he can't after 2-3 season then the split with be mutual.

In a world of firing coaches before season end and on the tarmac at airports I think the slow play is best in this case.

This is like asking Gen Chizbang to come back for a third year.

There are two types of staff changes... Where the head coach fires someone and when they leave on their own accord. The first tends to happen right after the season. The second tends to happen after signing day. This does not mean there won't be any changes, just that Paul isn't firing someone. Wally might still end up retiring. Won't know that until February.

If we lose to UNI again, I want Rhoads fired before he can walk off the field.

He never had a chance to take the Pitt coaching job nor did he have a shot at the Wisconsin job.

And BS we need to wait 2-3 years to see if he can rebuild it. He hasn't built anything frankly. He took McCarney and Chizik recruits, sprinkled in a couple of his own and had a bit of success iniitally. Now that we're on his recruits we are terrible. If he doesn't get us competitive and in the bowl game hunt he should be fired next year. Our defensive-minded head coach got us the worst defense in the country with no help in sight.

People killed Mess for having a bad offense. We had the worst defense in the country and no one takes the fall for it? That's the definition of insanity.

I'm fine with no coaching changes because I think everyone on the staff knows its a make or break year next year. And people tend to be at their best with their backs against the wall.

I think another year in Mangino's system and the offense will be fine. It's the trainwreck of a defense that needs major improvement.

But I don't blame fans that want a change at DC. We followed up our #107 ranked 2013 defense with the #128 defense in 2014.

I wouldn't read a whole lot into them all being on the road. They could know they are leaving or on their way out and still finish up with what they are being paid to do. When Chris Ash left he was at the Recruiting Party held by the Grid Iron Club even though he had accepted a job at ND or WISC. I'm not saying there is or isn't, but I wouldn't read too much into that they are all on the road. Heck, a few might be sitting at a Big Boy somewhere in FL for all we know.
