Re: Coach Matt A

I see the legend of TJ Otz is strong in this thread. He was a solid recruiter and a good assistant, but some seem to have a revisionist history of him though.
How can you truly judge the job that an assistant does? Fans don't really know if an assistant is good or not. I think it spoke volumes about him that Fred wanted TJ on his first staff at ISU.

Re: Coach Matt A

Not that it's some major failure but if you are the lead recruiter on a guy and he doesn't come there, it is on you. Again, that doesn't mean he's not worth employing. It's his job to figure out if guys like that are worth the wait and effort relative to the likelihood that he'll come here.

@GoodmanESPN: St. John's is bringing back former star Chris Mullin as head coach, sources told ESPN. Deal is done.

CW doesn't just drop these nuggets fellas.

There are probably only a couple jobs Matt would leave Fred for. His alma mater in an area where he grew up would be one of them. Can't blame him at all either.

Re: Coach Matt A

I can confirm, Matt is gone. Will be a done deal and made official in the next few days. Look for someone who is very very familiar with the program to return

Will be interesting to see how things turn out. His quote in the Daily was interesting. A lot of signs pointing to him being gone. I'd be cool with Otz or Sadler coming back. Or hiring a young stud recruiter.

Re: Coach Matt A

You mean you are an ISU fan so YOU can't imagine anyone not wanting to be in Ames.
Thanks but no. I don't live in ames, nor would I again. Simply making note of what makes a job worth taking or not. It's their decision to make, based on their life experience, not mine. St Johns just isn't what it used to be. Maybe more of an issue for Mullen since Matt didn't live the glory days either.

Morris and Bridges are close friends as well. Hopefully Man Man would come back for his senior season to play with Bridges.

I can confirm without providing proof this posts are foolish.

If he leaves - "see told you I was in the know".
If he stays - "guess he changed his mind. Fred must have talked him out of it."

I want Matt to stay, but if he leaves I can't blame the guy. It's home for him, and I think he will do well there.

LOL as of 18 hours ago Mullen was still in Califonia and hadn't made a decision and Chris Williams doesn't have a clue who he's going to put on his staff. I'm sure Mullen doesn't know yet either.
