NCAA has outright neglected this from the jump. Everyone is waiting for Congress to step in a regulate. Until then it's every man for himself. I don't think this will be a PR nightmare. Sorsby (or his agent) agreed to the deal with Cincy. Bro's trying to double dip with that new $4mil from Tech.
I wonder if this will be the start of a push for a players union in college football.
Isn't this also admitting that he did economic damage to Cincinnati by leaving?
I think the "harm to the athletic department" worries are over. A dude getting an order-of-magnitude multiple of a middle class working salary isn't going to garner much sympathy for breaking a contract. And he shouldn't.

So Tech is paying their QB approx $5 million for one season. Assuming he plays around 70 snaps per game and assuming Tech plays 14 games next season, he will be paid $5,102 each time his hands touch the ball.

I don't think there will be that much harm except for the top players who are all about $. Probably can't afford many of them anyway.
Thread title should probably be changed. He is being sued for not satisfying the terms of his buyout that was in the contract he signed. They aren't suing him for transfering. They built in a process for that and he is just refusing to follow what he agreed to.

Hell, put some Cincy fans on the stand in neckbraces and have them testify to emotional whiplash.

I think the schools will try their hardest to keep them from being employees. That opens up a whole New (and probably larger) can of worms.
I also think that they will keep them as students even if they make them some kind of employee. I think one of the major appeals of college sports for a lot of people is that you have students representing their school, classmates, and alumni against other schools. If you get rid of that, you’re just a worse version of the NFL.
I don’t know how many people would stop watching, but I don’t think they want to test that.

It's a balancing act. Putting in strong buyout language is certainly something Iowa State can try, but competing schools with deeper pockets may have a larger appetite for loss than we do. If a guy is picking between Iowa State and Texas Tech, and their NIL contract doesn't contain a large buyout, while ours does, we could be shooting ourselves in the foot.

Apparently they had a $1 million exit fee in his deal and he didn't pay it. Perhaps we should do something similar. Texas Tech reportedly paying him $4 to $6 million. Somebody in Northwest Iowa needs to strike oil.
I don't hate this idea. I kinda like the idea of getting some $$$ back from all the quitters who made us miss the bowl game.
If they unionize that would be a mess. That might be the final straw for a lot of fans. Can you imagine starting a season and the players go on strike? That would just basically end it right there. Might as well just watch the pro game
How would it be a mess compared to where we are now? They need a players union to actually negotiate some rules that will be enforceable. To me that is the only way out of this
Also, there are some states where they wouldn’t be able to form a union (because public sector employees can’t have unions). The legislatures would probably change that because nothing can get in the way of college football, but it would still be a mess
That’s fine until you do the same math with an NFL player. Mahomes gets around 50k per snap and he’s paid right in the middle per year of NFL QBs. Seems fair for a college player gets 1/10 of that.
I think the Bears backup QB gets 4 million and doesn’t take a snap. Any issues with that?
I don’t like the way college football is going mainly because it’s basically not regulated. Not that the kids are getting paid.
