fantastic on KOTH. I remember all that easy-listening jazz/pop stuff as a kid, folks would listen to it on the radio a lot.

Bad day for Chucks. First the Chuck E Cheese Mouse is arrested and now Chuck Mangione passes away.

The most influential horn player of his era. In 1979, a majority of Drum Corps International contestants had at least one of his numbers in their repertoire.

Certainly up there. But competed with…

Miles Davis
Maynard Ferguson
Bill Chase
Don Ellis
Freddie Hubbard
Chet Baker

etc.

Every Friday before school, I play "Feels so Good" by Chuck for my kids as a pick me up. You'd be surprised how much they looked forward to it and will forever call it the "Friday song".

True, but Mangione a little more than Ferguson was idolized by high school horn players and influenced a generation of DCI groups.

Dang, I though he died back in 1998 in the massive Mega Lo Mart propane explosion in Arlan, Texas.
I thought just the Buckley, the manager of the propane department was the only one that died when that dang, ol Mega Lo Mart blew up

Different times and different groups, but when I was playing (circa late 90s to 2010ish) regularly the "consensus" was Miles Davis was the best trumpet player of all-time when you looked at the total body of work but Maynard was our favorite. It was high, loud, and aggressive, even tasteless. We loved that stuff.

Of the 2 famous people deaths yesterday. This was the sadder one for me personally.
