Is there anyone in your family that manages to drive you nuts every Christmas? I'll start, my MIL is late for everything. I'm not talking 20 minutes, I'm talking hours. My wife makes a meal and times it perfectly and then we just all sit around and wait. She is 70 years old and I don't know how she kept a job for 50 years.

My in-laws are shocked every holiday that it takes more than 20 minutes to put the meal together. We miss targeted eating time by hours every year.

The issue of not eating perfectly on time doesn't bother me. But the complete befuddlement every year about "how this happened?" is what gets me.

PLAN AHEAD

I hate when people do that because it's shows no respect. I would honestly just eat without her and save a plate. Especially if it happens so often. She needs a gentle reminder the world doesn't revolve around her. :)

My family's pretty good...got a few here and there that equate having more things to happiness so I sense a little weirdness when I only give them gift cards for their own disposal while they sent me something that goes to Goodwill eventually.

This is what happens when my in-laws come over for the holidays

My wife and her mom do the cooking (very grateful for). I do the dishes (last year I even got help) and then just go watch sports in the basement. A couple of my brother-in-laws may trickle downstairs and drink with me as I watch sporting events. Not a bad set-up. They are VERY introverted and nerdy, but I overall like them

My sister. Has to make EVERYTHING about her. Whenever anyone is opening one of the gifts she bought she shushes the room letting it be known that HER present is being opened. Whenever anyone is having a fun conversation she injects herself into it making the topic somehow relevant to her life. And whenever someone responds positively to a gift she bought them she proclaims "I WON CHRISTMAS". I love her and I dread her all at once.

My niece in law. SUPER dramatic (i.e. ailments that have never been confirmed...pain...food allergies, etc)...so that underlies everything. But i think the biggest thing that is annoying is her not reading the room. Meaning, i remember the first get together she came to....she couldn't NOT talk. Like maybe an old family story was being told....she would interject at the end a not even loosely associated story about her family. Or if say two people are talking about something across the room, she'll hear a word and take over the story (again, unsolicited and not even loosely related) and she's the "rookie" of the family with the least time with us. Of course everyone was and still is kind...but it's so predictable and really throws off the "flow" of a good gathering.

That's pretty funny. My MIL has a very strange policy, she doesn't do gift cards. Gift cards lack creativity and aren't in the spirit of Christmas. But then she wants everyone to give her very specific ideas as to what they want. As in, "send me links to the exact item you want" so she can purchase it online. So gift cards are bad, but she still puts zero creativity into the gift buying process. Very strange.

I hate to say it but my mother is the same way. It drives me crazy. Say something about the kids, work, or life and then she goes on about herself and how no one does anything for her and how awful her job is, everyone gets a nicer present than her... yada yada yada. Plus the older she gets the meaner she is about other people. I dread it.

I can hang out with my younger brother for maybe 30 seconds and after that it's over. He has a way of just trying to instigate something. It's like he just wants to get some sort of reaction from you. Everyone else it's just fine. I have a blast hanging out with my sisters.

What else are younger brothers for??? I'm the oldest and I still love putting my younger brother in his place from time to time. Hope that never changes

And 'creative' can very easily translate to 'useless'.
