Chili Recipe

This one has won people's choice at my work and the guy that recommended that I make it. It takes a while but damn is it good. It has a kick but not as much as you'd expect from the name and ingredients. Seriously...try this....

Needs probably about 1/4 cup of brown sugar. And more peppers.

Wise choice leaving the beans out there. I suppose you get a passing grade.

I prefer stewing beef to ground beef. Also do the mushrooms; canned are fine. I like beans and chunks of tomato. Beef broth or tomato juice to "soup" it up. I like beans but whatever.

we're making that this week too, Bret!

We use:

kidney beans
black beans
hamburger
diced tomatoes
tomato juice
tomato paste
brown sugar
couple cloves of garlic
garlic powder
chili powder
little cayenne
salt/pepper

nothing too fancy, might have to try Agronomist's celery suggestion...have some to use up.

Corn in chili? That's an abomination.

there was a big to-do on my fb a couple months ago when someone's wife wanted to put noodles in the chili and the husband put it to a vote. Who does that?! Apparently it's a thing in parts of WI.

weirdos, that's goulash.

We put a little spaghetti in ours an hour before it's done. Just like my dad did. Not enough to call it goulash. And man does that **** me off when people call it that!

3lbs of ground beef
2 cans of roasted diced tomatos
1 can of black beans
1 can of pinto beans
1 can of light red kidney beans
1 can of dark red kidney beans
2 28oz cans of tomato sauce
2 cans of diced green chilis
1 medium white onion
2 jalapenos
diced garlic
salt, pepper, cumin, and chili powder to taste
Then the most important step, SET IT AND FORGET IT!

Mostly summarizes my typical recipe. The mix of beans is good.

I use spicy ground sausage plus (or in lieu of) beef. Also a little hot sauce and beer.

That's not chili. Get that blasphemy out of this thread.

Was just in a chili cook-off two weeks ago. Five entries and each had beans. No beans, and you may as well just have a bowl of broth.

So apparently you just have liquid and beans in your chili? Put a couple different types of beef and some pork sausage in there and you don't need beans...and chili should NEVER be runny or soupy...always thick...

I spent years studying the art of chili-making at a chili-dojo in Texas...I now have a black belt in chili-making and would never put beans in my chili now...beans are for chili amateurs...

In fact, I'm part of a secret society that's trying to rid the chili world of beans altogether...so watch out.

NO BEANS NO MERCY!

Canned mushrooms are never fine. For anything.
