Chicago flights

Agreed. This as an awesome option for those traveling from north central Iowa. I don’t think the OP was suggesting it was a great option for those in central or eastern Iowa.
Living in Mason City and have family in Chicago. Drive time is 5 1/2 hours. Air travel time with arrival, check-in, flight, departure and transport into Chicago is only 60 minutes less than driving. Very handy to fly, but I still end up driving most of the time just to not rent a car.

I drove to Chicago only once in my life, and I didn’t really like that. Though I like driving, for some reason, I don’t like going to Chicago by car. I have a family in Chicago too, so I always fly there by business class, which is even faster. Takes about 45-50 minutes to get home. Still, I guess if I had to work on Friday too, I’d definitely choose driving there. Btw, guys, have you already counted how many fights you’ve made this year? I have 78 flights made. Last year I had 123. Mostly travel for work.

This. If you don't live in Mason City it's hard to see how it's worth it. I was just in Chicago last week and driving from Ankeny we got to our hotel close to Naperville in 4.5 hours drive time. I don't understand flying at that point.
Saying Naperville is Chicago is the same as saying ames is Des Moines. I agree though, it's about equal time to drive as fly considering all the time spent. I've probably made that trip 200 times at least.

Holy resurrected thread. They are similar distance, but Naperville is part of the Chicago metro and Ames is not part of the DSM metro. Anyone who's made the drive from Ames to DSM and Naperville to Chicago proper knows they are nothing alike.

Best thing to do is drive to Naperville, then take metra train downtown to avoid the bad traffic.

I grew up in Chicago suburbs. We used to laugh at people from there that identified as Chicago. I assume you're from Iowa.
You can now call me an idiot or whatever else is common on this forum.

Yes, I'm from Iowa. If you live there and want to say you aren't really a Chicago native if you live in the burbs fine. However, you're splitting hairs when you are telling people who visit Chicago that they aren't REALLY in Chicago if they stay in the burbs and drive or take the train downtown. I'd wager that's how the majority of people who visit Chicago do it. If you want to carry on with this pedantic argument from a post I made over 6 months ago fine, but I'm out.

I always find the 'suburb people aren't really from x area' argument hilarious.

95% of the time when someone is referencing a city they are visiting, etc.. they are referencing the general MSA.

I live in Ankeny but I tell people when I'm outside the state I live in Des Moines. It's just easier because at least SOME people know where that is. I have family who live in Frankfort, which is a suburb of Chicago, and I've heard them tell people in Iowa they live in Chicago for the exact same reason. I guess that would get them made fun of back home.

I don't laugh at people, but I always say I live in Schaumburg, out of state or in. If they look at me funny or ask where that is, I say NW Burb of Chicago. I moved here in 1994 and have always said the name of the town I live in, not Chicago. Mainly because, in my mind, there is a huge difference between living in Chicago and living in the outer suburbs.

Why did you feel the need to go back and add the idiot part at the end? I didn't do anything of the sort. You are the one digging up old posts to pick nits.

I've seen some Chicago burb people say they're from the Chicagoland area. Let's people know they're near Chicago, but don't live in Chicago proper.

I met a lot of people from the Chicago area in college. I have no problem when people who are from Naperville or Crystal Lake say they live in Chicago. However, no joke, some guy told me once he lived in Chicago, and when I asked what suburb, he told me Rockford.

I used to drive to Chicago, well Rosemont, for work years ago. Anyone know how much the tolls on 88 are currently?

I had the same thought. Kind of like Daytona, Sanford and Melbourne like to bill themselves as Orlando options. Sanford somewhat works but is still an hour drive from where everyone goes in Orlando.
