My wife had a couple of Equinox vehicles that we bought new. They were very reliable and comfortable. She recently upgraded to Buick Envision and it is more than just a step up. Much better drive and comfort. Take a look if a few more dollars is doable for you

I wish I could permanently disable the "smart" shutoff in my wife's 2018 Equinox. The amount of fuel saved cannot possibly be worth what's happening to the engine
I hate that thing.

I don't know about the engine as a whole, but have they made the starter more durable?

My sister has the Buick version of the Equinox, 2021, I believe? She hasn't done it, but some quick googling shows ways to do this.

We are looking into a newer GM vehicle for my wife, and I will make it my mission to disable that damn thing.

What's frustrating with a lot of vehicles with auto stop is a lot of us have dash cams wired in that will then turn off and back on. You may miss recording time.

That day is kind of already here if you count using the app to do something like remote start your car, have to pay monthly for that.
It's free on Fords, but they are one of the few that don't charge.

I really don't understand the hate on this. Not once in the 10+ years I've had cars with it has it ever impacted me in a negative way.

I understand that sort of thing. If it requires internet access to your vehicle, AT&T isn't doing that for free. It’s the things that are purely on-board that I have a problem with. I’m not paying a subscription for heated seats for example.

There is a feature on the new Rexing i installed which allows a "cool down" period where the battery will continue to monitor after losing ACC power. - They also included a wire for a direct to battery connection as well to use the camera when its not powered on, but a shock sensor inside the camera activates it.

Going from memory (faulty as it is), Motor Trend did a study, drove all day in stop and go traffic in LA and the auto stop featured saved around ~ .1 of a gallon. Not worth it IMO.

Have this in the newer Honda Pilot I got last year and it's the stupidest thing ever.

Our daughter has the auto stop feature on their Honda Pilot, and when we drove it out East last summer I hated it. She finally told me that by hitting a switch you can disable it while driving, but it kicks back on the next time you turn the vehicle off. Nothing but a worthless feature.

Totally agree. That feature, which I have on KIA Soul EX I bought this year, should have been option to turn on, rather than have to constantly turn it off.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm excited for the day that you buy a new car but have to pay a monthly subscription fee to use all the features.
So annoying. My car has remote start...only if I'm willing to pay for it.

Trust me... i'd want a Toyota over all of this, just cant justify the price on it.
You get what you pay for, after owning Fords and Chevy's for years, we finally saw the light and started purchasing Toyota's. They are made in the US, run forever, have great resell and the best part about them is that Toyota will fix a problem if something is happening with the vehicle. I have found from personal experience that Ford and Chevy just want to give you the runaround and not fix a well known problem with the vehicle.

We have a Grand Highlander, purchased last summer, they had a problem with the airbags, if the window is down, they will not protect the driver and passenger. What did Toyota do, stopped all production of the vehicle, stopped the sell of it until the problem was fixed. They just started production up again after a couple of months, ours goes in on Dec. 2nd to get the airbag replaced. Like I said, they do not mess around if their vehicles have a problem, they find a solution and fix it. If Ford and Chevy had that same commitment to their vehicles they would have never lost me as a long time customer.

We've given close looks to Toyotas and Hondas and it's very close IMO. Both great quality and hold their value very well. We've always landed on Honda, specifically Pilots, because from test driving them the Honda has just felt like the more solidly built vehicle around me. But to each his own.
