Actually, Mandatory Metallica is a real program; other stations in Iowa and around the country have this same program. In it's early days, 103.3 played Metallica songs almost on the half-hour before they picked up MM.

You aren't kidding about Des Moines radio being awful. I commute from Des Moines to Indianola every day and I can go the whole drive some days without hearing a song worth listening to. Finally had to break down and buy a docking station for the Iphone so I can listen to Pandora.
