I can't ever listen to 103.3 without hearing "Tom Sawyer" or "Comfortably Numb" or, as my wife puts it, the "cash register song" and the "clocks song" (you probably know what I'm talking about)

Don't forget GNR. My wife swears that the DJs are mandated to play one Guns N Roses song every hour.

105.1 will still have cyclone games. This move is stupid and makes no sense.

105.1 used to be Hot FM, before 107.5 came on the air, and it played boy bands and Britney Spears basically all day long.

This will take me a while to get use to, as I did listen to both 106.3 and 105.1 (until non-stop Christmas) and now I will have to get remember they are opposite..

I heard a Black Eyed Peas song and then a Tom Petty song tonight on 105.1. That was different. On 106.3 they played the typical 105.1 stuff like Foo Fighters. We'll all get used to it so don't worry. I think they had 2 Dotfests before the format changed.

This sucks because I could get 105.1 from just south of Clear Lake to Des Moines without hearing the same song 5 times.

105.1 range was awesome, this assessment is spot on, now there are NO alt/rock stations in northern Iowa!!!!! Feels real manly in rocking out in the garage workn on classic American muscle listening black hip hop teeny bop.

Ya I can adapt except I can't ******* get 106.3!!!! It range sucks!!!

Are 105.1, 107.1, and 107.5 all Clear Channel or whatever? Did they just not want two current pop stations from Des Moines?

105.1 had its issues, but was almost the only thing I played when not playing mp3s on my phone. There was a reason my three-year-old asks for Beasties and Muse rather than Carly Rae or Miley. This move doesn't make a ton of sense.

Clear Channel feels the new format is a better fit for Ames, and the Ames format can build numbers in Des Moines. That simple.

I listened to 106.3 for quite awhile yesterday and it didn't sound like the same 105.1 I've been listening to for the past few years. Feels like they still changed the programming a bit with that move.

Oh, and good bye 105.1 from my presets.

Arent there more guys at ISU than females? I would think they would more likely listen to Black Keys than Rihanna?

They are going to program the station to the general "Ames" community and felt a different demo might help sales. But the real driving force is to program a hot station in Des Moines and not compete with themselves with the Q format in Ames. If I owned it, I would program it differently, but it's an afterthought to Des Moines. It won't be the exact same format in DM. Q was satellite, the DM station will be Clear Channel programmed with "live" sound.

I am hoping the switch will be good. Des Moines is radio is so bad when you hear virtually the same playlist on KGGO and KDRB, which are all songs from when I WAS IN COLLEGE 33 YEARS AGO. Cannot understand how a station that "plays everything" can play the same songs as KGGO within an hour of each other. 106.3 sounded pretty good yesterday, I was bummed when they went pop about a year ago.

I spend the majority of my time in the car during my commute from Ames to Marshalltown, and usually listened to 105 since it would reach Marshalltown with no problems. I probably won't bother with 106.3 since I'll need to change stations mid-commute. The new 105.1 completely sucks, so I guess I won't be listening to Clearchannel anymore.

clear channel is the worst thing that ever happened to radio, at least for people who like good music and/or a variety.

This is true as well.

Anybody remember when they first came on there air and couldn't survive without at least one Metallica song every hour...maybe even half-hour?

I think that even called it mandatory Metallica for a while

I thought 105.1 had gone downhill the past couple of years, seemed like there was more national shows, with music played that didn't interest me quite as much as what the local DJ's put on. Was on the edge of 105.1's range but can't get 106.3 so it still sucks as 105.1 was still my radio station of choice. Quality rock choices in the Fort Dodge area are now pretty terrible.

105.1 started sucking once they dumped all the local DJs and went to the watered down national format. I freaking hate listening to canned DJs "Hey did you hear about the ... blah blah derpy derp?" They think they are really clever and funny but just sound stupid and snarky.
The local ones would throw in some awesome old-school or totally off the wall stuff once in a while to mix it up.
