You aren't taking into account the other players in the draft at all. This years draft class is extremely deep, especially with big men. Next year's draft would give Royce a better chance to be taken into the lottery but there is no guarantee which is why he made the decision he did.

You're right. It is more true in the NFL but it still holds true in the NBA. I would much rather get picked by the Spurs with the 27th pick or the Bulls with the 30th than some of the teams picking 10-20.
Last year only Kyrie Irving made $4M, Royce is never going to be a top five pick. The difference between the last pick in the first round and the 10th pick is less than a million. There's no way it makes financial sense to come back for another season, unless you just completely make up numbers like you did in your argument.
Good for him. Although it sucks for us, would have had a shot at winning it all next year. Still solid team, but now I will be happy if we get in the NCAA again, if he stayed, I would think Final Four. Clones literally would have been a monster next year. Oh well, so close yet so far again. Good luck Royce.
Didn't see that link. I just hope he gets guaranteed money...you know, obviously $500k at league minimum is a great salary too and anything after that is good. THEN he does his thing in the NBA and gets higher contracts in the years after.
Frankly, the responsible decision is to leave for the NBA now. He has a family and that should come first. There's no guarantee that his draft stock will ever get higher than it is now (see Craig Brackens), and while I'd selfishly love to cheer for him another year, this kid deserves some success and I'll wish him the best of luck on whatever he has decided. Even more importantly, how awful would it be if he suffers a serious injury next year in an Iowa State uniform.
Finally, I think it's probably important that Fred directs him to the NBA. We want Fred to be seen as a coach who cares and can get his players into the NBA in an effort to start to recruit some of the top level talent. It's an investment in our recruiting future. If Royce stays (all indicators point elsewhere), I would hope to hear that it was his decision to stay and that his coach had told him to go to the NBA.

I'm kind of new to the site, so I ask this question because I don't know. Were people this excited to watch the NBA when Brackins left? Or is Royce the most celebrated Cyclone since Fizer?
RE all the Brackins talk I think he would've been better served to stay in college more (under someone other than McD) because his game obviously wasn't and still isn't NBA ready. Seems to me like all of these "potential" guys in the NBA hardly ever make it because NBA teams aren't set up for development because they're focused so much on winning now.
Boy, with Royce we could really make a run next year. I wish the best or him and he exceeded my expectations. The guy is a monster.
I can see him being a double double guy like Joakim. Not flashy, but can get some points and can really rebound. I am sure there is a better player comparison, but frankly I only watch Bulls games. I would think his ability to lead the break would be really attractive in the NBA.
