Capital City League

Drake isn’t playing in cap city either

Looking at these 2022 rosters there would be little value in ISU scrimmaging d3/ naia kids every week

Yeah, it was fun while it lasted, and it is still a fun league for good local low-major, JUCO, and high school players to scrimmage against each other. But I don't think you'll see high-major players in it ever again.

I will never forget the year that Sherron Dorsey-Walker was going to be a star, based on nothing more than putting up 40 every night in the CCL
My favorite memory was the summer that Burton & Weiler-Babb were on opposing teams (2016) and scrawny Nick was trying to guard Deonte the tank. They were laughing the whole time.

WOW, the only names I recognize from those rosters are Tyreke Locure and Carlo Marble!

You could never tell if a player was going to be good based off the CCL, but you could tell if a player was going to be bad.
I'm curious if anyone has stories of Cyclones players that didn't pass the eye test at Cap City and subsequently didn't pan out at ISU. If there were guys that the writing was on the wall before they even put on a Cyclone uniform etc. Is this what happened to Luke Anderson and Marcedus Leech? Can't remember if ISU had already pulled out of Cap City by then or not.

Both were 4 stars according to some publications. Didn't need to be reminded of those whiffs. There are already so many.

All coaching staffs miss on a recruit from time to time. Steve went something like 1 for his last 8 in terms of guys who panned out at the P6 level, Grill being the only hit, and has been marginal/ rotation player at best. And also isn't at Iowa State anymore obviously. 2 years into TJ and the Prohm holdovers are gone

I remember seeing Naz Long in what may have been his first CCL game. He was just "nasty." Apparently, no one had told him that they don't play defense in the CCL. He was all over guys, often from full-court. He played from Day 1 with the tenacity we came to love about him.

The CCL was great for being reminded of the enormous talent gap between an average D1 player and everyone else.

Luke Anderson was exactly the name I had in mind; first time I saw him at Cap City I thought - whoa, he needs some serious development if he's going to play at ISU. Not sure what the staff saw in him.
