Calm the heck down

Hmm, I see it isn't safe to come out yet.

Johnny Orr lost games too. We'll survive. I like the state of our program, and I'm not looking to change it.

Ha! This stuff drives me crazy. Since the game last night I have read:

-Fred is always outcoached
-Fred will never win a conference title
-Georges is a disaster who will never be as good as he was last year
-Iowa State will never get to the final 4
-Iowa State's defense is the worst in the world
-Iowa State is 100% to blame for the loss. Baylor did nothing to win the game
-A home loss is unacceptable. No team ever loses at home, so why does Iowa State lose at home?

Those are obviously paraphrased, but not overstated for affect.

It's much better then apathy. We have a passionate fan base. This is a product of that.

I agree. It's not necessarily a bad thing but it does lead to some child-like meltdowns. "Georges should be benched", "we may lose out", "not a good tournament team", etc. is all pretty dumb when we just lost to a top 20 team.

The level of entitlement is pretty scary after just a couple years of moderate success.

It's easy to get caught in the trap of wanting more. This program is so close to joining the elites but for whatever reason we just can't get there.

Calm down?
Be careful what you wish for. There are lots of "calm" fan bases that only fill 1/3 of their seats at home games and who's message boards have a dozen posters, and these are winning, ranked teams.
Me? I'll take highs and lows of a passionate fan base vs an apathetic(aka calm) one.

Or maybe we aren't as close as some fans think.

Wanting more is fine but we are going to lose. Everyone does it. And again, I'm fine with criticizing play, discussing why we lost, etc. It's the "we suck we are never going to win again" fan that is annoying as ****.

The 10th ranked team we have had to play. Who we play in the first games in NCAA in March are not going to be ranked teams. I get the Tech meltdown but as disappointing as it is to lose at home, this is not the biggest upset in the world.

Agree that incessant whining can get old, but so can folks ragging on fans who are disappointed.
Quotations should be parsed around actual statements, didn't see anyone saying we'll never win again.

100% agreed. People have the right to be mad after left night and they shouldn't be lumped in with the people that are absolutely flipping ****. Some people shouldn't be here if they can't handle that. Bashing the people that are being reasonably disappointed is stupid

Yea, that would really be annoying if that happened.

if you don't think that is the mood on here after every loss, then you are delusional.

Still a very reasonable chance at sharing the Big 12 championship and being a 3 seed in the NCAA tournament. Holy **** you'd think this team just played themselves off the bubble with the way people are reacting.

LOL this. I think its funny how people thought we would win out, and after last night, those same people would be shocked if we went 3-0 the rest of the way. I have been very critical of the way the team handled the last 4 minutes last night, but I do think ISU will win the net 3 games.

I see people saying that maybe we sucked last night, but I never see any we suck overall on the year and this team will never win again posts. Maybe you can find them since I can't?

I thought we'd win out, and I still do. It's just a 5 game win streak instead of 6.

It is what it is, but I don't like the way we throw away possessions. It's really cool when we lob it up for McKay and he dunks it, but we missed by my count 4 of those in the first half when there were better shots available.

On a side note, elite programs have fans that get ****** off when they don't win. We are on our way to being an elite program.

I realize this fan base has to accept mediocrity at best on Saturdays in the fall, but it is kind of nice to EXPECT to win when watching a team in cardinal and gold.

I think most people are pretty reasonable about their expectations and the difficulty of our level of competition at the national scale and in the conference. I think most people probably remember the dark days of the late Morgan and the whole McDermontt era, too, and not only were we (1) bad we were (2) boring. Even the "bad" Fred team the first year was fun to watch, and, heck, he took the leftovers of the last McD year and got to 0.500 with it. There's just a few mal-contents around these boards and otherwise that seem "late to the party" and think this is football or something where a Top 25 team and national title contender can't lose practically any games.

It's basketball. It ain't like that. Get hot at the right time for single-elimination tournaments that are AWFUL ways to pick the best team, statistically, but a heck of a lot of fun. UConn was mediocre most of last year and look what happened when Shabazz started draining threes.

This is still a hoot, and always will be with Fred around. Cherish it, people. He's going to have plenty of options now and down the road--I'd imagine most NBA teams would be glad to have him, wouldn't surprise me if some college programs would think about him, too. UK tried to hire Izzo at one point. The KU boards have discussed him as a long-term successor to Self. That one tool in Alabama said they should hire him away from us, blissfully unaware of basically anything. It's really hard to be competitive in this conference and to bring people to Ames.

Baylor is a really good team and getting better of late. Hitting 5/5 on contested threes when shooting for your life on the road is pretty impressive. I will say that I do wish Fred would have called a time out to break their momentum on this one. Yes, I think this is one rare instance where he got out-coached for being too conservative with that. But it's hard to argue with the body of work, and this team still has all the potential in the world over the next month.

The two best ISU teams of all-time, to me, are pretty clearly the Fizer/Tinsley year and the Kane/Ejim year. Rare you get solid teams with two AAs to headline things. I don't think this team has that kind of "top-end" talent on it. Niang has been inconsistent this year, and he's our best bet for it next year probably, but, yeah. I do think we've got a deeper roster of good or very good players, but not really anything transcendent. It is more of a team thing at the moment. It's a team that's plenty good enough, however, to do well in Kansas City and make a run in the NCAA tournament. I'd hope Fred could get out of the first weekend considering we're probably playing a lower-conference automatic bid in the first game and a #6 seed in game two, which is a lower-level-but-still-made-it major conference team (like an OSU) that I hope we can handle. Anything past that? Just bonus. Enjoy the ride. How they do in that "stream" of things is going to determine their place in the pantheon relative to Fizer/Tinsley and Ejim/Kane and, probably my #3, the Dedric/Cato team that got to the Sweet Sixteen and won in KC.

I know Fred and the team talked things up. CW was a personified hype train this off-season. But take it all in stride and have some context to it. This is great.

I do feel like the French defenders with shellshock at the Battle of Verdun after the artillery barrage Baylor put on us last night, though.

Up until about the 8min mark (when drew called his last TO) it didnt' even look like Baylor belonged on same court as us. Then the wheels fell off.

This team is one of the most talented teams we've had but their also the most inconsistent. It's frustrating to see their potential and what they could do this year, and then we have games like last night.
