Caleb Grill

i'm assuming we'd take both nadolny and grill. i'm also assuming the offer to grill means LW will not be returning.

part of me think prohm might be better off with talented, under the radar players, rather than 4/5 stars. maybe that will be better for us longer term.

I have a tough time believing we'd take both. That is bringing in a freshman class of 5...I would think we would like to stay at 3-4 per class for balance.

Class balance is nice, but things change quickly in college basketball. There’s a great chance it will be down to 3 by the time this class are seniors.

Heck, it would probably be...

One can contribute right away, and eventually turns into a star.

One is a marginal player at first, but eventually a solid contributor.

One is a career benchwarmer.

One transfers pretty quickly.

...if history is any guide about such things.

Part of me agrees. I would absolutely love Wigginton to come back, but if he doesn't, then I would want Kira Lewis, Nadolny, and Grill. I understand that's quite the haul, and some would freak out that there's not a grad transfer for immediate help, but it would set up future teams extremely well. We'd just have to probably suffer through an average year next year.

Lot of assumptions there.

Really all we know is a new prospect became available that Prohm liked and extended an offer. Prohm has said all year that he wanted to add another guard if a scholarship opened. Recruiting is too competitive to wait for Nadolny to visit and decide before pursuing and offering other players that will fit the system. If Grill were to commit on the spot, Nadolny likely wouldn't come to ISU and visa versa due to roster construction. 3 similar sized guards in a class would create problems for development and playing time.

Wigginton may go pro, but I don't think even he has decided and won't until after the NBA evaluation.

As for not recruiting 4-5 stars, It gets said every year and Prohm continues to recruit 4-5 stars so that will continue and ISU is better off for it. Getting Wigginton and THT has not hurt the program rather made it better.

I don’t mind taking 5 freshmen this year. Build around Conditt and Haliburton. You get 2-3 guys out of this class and you’re in business in 2020-2021. If we lose Talen and Wigginton I think we’re in for a difficult year next year.

Average, as in the average of our last 10 years? I suppose that would be alright.

Optimistically, I would guess 16-18 wins and square on the bubble.

Early expectations thread --

If we make the NCAA tournament next year, considering all that we are losing (including THT being 99%+ gone and Wigginton not far Behind), then...

...I would consider that expectations met.

The roster is not designed to peak next year even with those two back.

If Wigginton is back, then I would adjust upwards somewhat.

If THT and Wigginton are gone, and there's not a real good grad transfer coming in, then the tournament is not an expectation. Making the tournament would mean they exceeded expectations.
