Alright time to end this losing streak! Have a great opportunity to face an undefeated #11 ranked team coming into Jack Trice. Do like the spot for the Cyclones coming off a bye and having 2 weeks to prepare/heal up for the Cougars. BYU coming off a win versus their biggest rival/national spotlight with Big Noon Kickoff on campus, etc. Letdown spot for them?

TV: 2:30 pm on FOX

FanDuel & DraftKings both currently have us as a 2.5 point favorite.

Weather Forecast 5 days out: Mostly Cloudy, High of 60 degrees & a 12 mph SE Wind:

My B.Y.U. Football bona fides:

I have seen the Cougars play four times (3-1) in four different stadiums:

1995 @ Fresno State when Steve Sarkisian was the B.Y.U. QB. He set an NCAA completion % record that day going 31/34 (91.2 %) for 399 yards and 3 TDs. The Cougars won 45-28.

1997 @ Cotton Bowl: The Cougars (w/ LaVell Edwards) beat Kansas State (w/ Vampire 1.0) 19-15 to finish the season (13-1). Probably their best team ever - with apologies to the 1984 National Champions (14-0).

1999 @ Motor City Bowl in Pontiac, MI vs. Undefeated Marshall. The Thundering Herd won 21-3 to finish (13-0).

2016: @ Cincinnati. The Cougars won 20-3. Who knew that nine years later on 10/19/2025, these two teams would be tied alone atop the Big XII standings?

So, looking forward to seeing the B.Y.U. Cougars come to Ames, IA to see them play in person for the 5th time.

Let's Go State!

Almost every time I have a bad feeling about this team I’m wrong. I was nervous about the Arizona game. I thought we'd handle CU by double digits. After watching the mess of an offense the past two games and a defense prone to give up 1-2 huge scoring plays per game…this one makes me think it could be ugly. It’s at home. It’s homecoming. BYU has shown they can win close ones on the road. I need some Xanax. I hope I’m wrong once more.

BYU struggled at home with a bad WVU team until they pulled away late. Then they go out and beat Utah last night.

This is a game ISU should win, which is exactly why I have no faith in this right now

Hopefully cyclones had some healing up over the bye. I still believe in these guys, and think we have a deep team.

I have some reasonable faith that bye week+ returning injured players + home game is enough to beat BYU. Getting the W this week would do an awful lot to right the ship. Will also be attending the ASU game the next week and would be a start contrast in mood coming off a ranked win vs. 3rd straight loss.

BYU season ticket holder here, who mistimed his visit to Ames and is in Ames right now (mistimed is a misnomer. Trip was planned and not flexible before they announced the BIG 12 schedule but bummed to be missing the game by a week).

BYU is 17-2 in the last 1.5 seasons. However they have had some incredible luck /fortitude (depending on perspective) in getting there. Double OT vs AZ last week, a comeback against CU, a 4th down hold against Utah last year to extend the game winning drive are examples. They generally haven’t been blowing teams out, but doing enough to win.

The luck will run out at some point and it could very well be on Saturday. It will be hostile and they will be riding a lot of emotion from beating Utah.

PS … I got to go to the volleyball game in Hilton a couple days ago and enjoyed walking around the stadium after visiting Reiman Gardens yesterday. It’s always good to be back in Ames.

The crowd will be pretty edgy I’d imagine, given the last month of dumb football. They will be pissed off. Good job yesterday, Utah is annoying.

The sharps are pounding ISU the same way they pounded Cincinnati when that line came out.

BYU Game Thoughts:
-BYU ran a quarterback draw at the end the game up like ten points (what a head scratching play by the way). On the play Bachmeier was wincing in pain holding his arm. Something to keep an eye on, maybe it is nothing, could be something? Looked like he was hurting for sure.

ISU thoughts:
- If we can get Konrardy back that can give this team an emotional lift. I think we need that greatly, so we aren't lacking as much confidence over the 50 yard line. It absolutely effects offensive play calling in a bad way having him out.

- With the BYU game I am more worried about our defense than our offense. I will still submit that Kooper Ebel LB is our only play maker in the front 6 of our defense. We to my untrained eyes do not have any other defensive linemen or linebackers that can pressure opposing qb's, get sacks, force negative plays, etc.
We are 15th in the Big 12 in sacks (last). Also, for those that rush to "the defense isn't designed to do that"....
- We have 6 interceptions this year, which is also pretty mediocre and close to national average. If our base defense is to (on almost every down), rush 3 players, we have to be intercepting the football at a MUCH higher rate than that. In other words you cannot give opposing QBs 5 plus seconds to throw every down and stink at interceptions and sacks as a team defense.

On D the personnel needs to change next year, the scheme does, or both. Seeing the CU QB complete a 3rd and 17 to win the game last Saturday because our corners had to cover 5 seconds last week gave me indigestion. We need to put another guy's hand in the dirt with 4 down linemen, blitz more, or do something.

I watched a lot of football Saturday and saw exactly zero teams use the 3-3 for majority of the game. If the 3-3 stack was a competitive advantage, more teams would use it as their base.

Every time I’ve watched BYU they haven’t done anything that really impresses me. But they keep winning games though and that has to count for something.

If Heacock decides to mug everyone up to the LOS again Saturday, Bachmeier is going to run for 100 easy. I am also willing to bet we leave Chase Roberts open for one easy TD.

Probably need to score 30 to win and I just don’t see that happening. Which really sucks because I don’t know if there is a team I can’t stand more than BYU.
