I'm really considering buying a new watch, but I just dont know if I would wear it enough. It would be in the $400 range and wouldn't even be worn at work. Do many people even wear watches that often anymore? I'm I being foolish for getting this stuck in my mind??

I think a watch is the one accessory that a man can and should have. Wearing a watch shows a sense of style and punctuality. Whether you want to buy a $400 watch is up to you, but my $40 Shimano works pretty well.

This is the one I was thinking about.

If you want to show off the money at least do it with style.

I wear a watch everyday, I don't like using my cellphone to tell time. I work with my hands a lot for my job and my watches tend to get beat up quickly, a watch allows me to check the time without putting down my wrench and stuffing my greasy hand into my pocket or all over my phone.

I think watches are awesome and they are one of the few legit ways for a man to show some bling.

I have a Citizen that I like a lot, although I don't have much to compare it to, my only other watch before this was a Fossil. It's the Eco-Drive so it doesn't have a battery, which I like.

Funny that I was going to say Fossil as well, until I saw the $400 price range. Fossil is great if you're looking in the $100 range, but for that kind of money you can do a lot better than Fossil. If I were looking to drop serious coin on a watch I'd probably do Citizen EcoDrive as well.

$400 for a watch that you rarely wear? I love watches, even though I rarely wear one, but that seems alot unless you wear it frequently. You seemed to be unsure about your purchase is why I bring it up. Otherwise I don't care if you spend $4k on a watch, it's your money. I say spend $100 and give $300 to the Gridiron Club or something like that. :)

Edit: Take a look at that Skagen website. A couple caught my eye for a good price. Those blue faced watches are cool but can I wear that every day with a golf shirt or t-shirt without looking obnoxious? I'd like one but for every day use.

Be aware, if you are like me, you will want a dress watch and an every day watch, if you get used to wearing them. I'm a brute when it comes to rings and watches etc. I just beat the crap out of them throughout the day without knowing. I usually go through an every day watch about once every 2 years. I've never destroyed a watch, it just gets dings and scratches that make them look unattractive after about two years. So I usually go the cheaper route on those. A good time piece though, will last you a lifetime, so it's not a bad idea to take your time and buy a really sensible more expensive watch for nice occasions and the dressier days at work.

You can get a very good watch for $400. Do a lot of looking and also look into a used or retro watch. You could get something classic and distinguished that will stick out. I am a big an of Raymond Weil, but I have thinner wrists so I don't like really big watches.

I'm not a bling guy, so have never considered paying much more than $25 for a watch. I never wear one. Can get the time from my cell phone.
