Sorry if I missed the boat and there's already been a thread about it (was out of the country last week and am just now catching up on my CF forums).

https://247sports.com/college/iowa-...ins-firmly-in-the-running-for-Purdy-114048138

OFFICIAL VISIT: It sounds like his visit went extemely well (although I've never read one of these articles and heard a kid say "no it sucked"). Students did a "We Want Brock" chant that an Arizona newspaper even wrote about.

TWITTER: He's retweeted, followed, and liked a lot of ISU stuff recently but his tweet about his Alabama offer is still pinned at the top of his profile.

24/7: Crystal Ball is still half/half on Bama and Boise State but doesn't look like it's been updated in a while. Iowa State is listed as "Warm" along with Bama, Boise St, UCF, and Oregon St.

With a UCF and Alabama visit this weekend. What happens? Would this be the "National Signing Day Surprise" if he signed with us?

Thoughts?

Seems as if ISU has a real shot.

Probably depends on if Bama puts the full court press on him, and/or how much being the only QB in a class would effect him.

I found this interesting in the article regarding that:

“He just said I’m the guy and whatnot and said they’re not really recruiting any other high school quarterbacks, it’s just me,” Purdy said following his official visit. “He said I can call on Signing Day and they’ll still take me. It was great to hear that they have all the confidence in me and are willing to wait for my decision. It’s just really cool. It shows that I’m obviously their guy.”

I also saw that. He seems comfortable with that, and hopefully he chooses ISU.

I just find it kind of odd that he said he's the guy when there is another QB in the class already. I know there is probably more to it than that, but just seems odd to read.

Bama seems pretty set at qb, but it would be hard to turn down an offer to play there
Hurts will be a Junior
Tua will be a Sophomore
They have another Junior and another Sophomore on the roster
They haven't signed anyone in this class though that is a QB.

So Bama needs a scout team QB next year and someone to starts out behind 4 other guys in year two. ISU needs someone who has a chance to compete for meaningful snaps in year two.

Yes but bama always looks sign a top qb in every class. Getting the starting job at bama won’t be easy

I'm guessing that Alabama will not say the same thing. They may ask for an immediate commitment, or may not have one available when he chooses if they land other targets.

Agreed. If Bama puts on the show and says "you're the only guy we want this class" it'll be damn hard to beat that. Only thing we have going for us is we don't have four 5 star kids on the depth chart ahead of him.
Fact checked myself:
Hurts was a 4 star (#4 Dual QB in the 2016 class)
Tua was a 5 star (#1 Dual QB in the 2017 class)
Mac Jones was a 3 star (#18 Pro Style QB in the 2017 class)
Montana Murphy was a walk on (2017 class)

I can't imagine how hard it is for these kids to make these big decisions. You can't trust anything a coach will tell you. They can say whatever they want about "being our guy" and "you'll compete for the job from day 1." Reality is, there are no guarantees at any school or program. Once they sign you up, all those promises go out the window. This is true across the board.

Would be awesome if we can get him to sign with us. Only thing that I like but also don't like about it is he and Re'al Mitchell will both be same year and I really love both skillsets for our offense; however I also love that competition between the 2 and also Moore. Should be interesting to say the least. I think Re'al would be the first difference maker athletically that we have had at QB since Seneca Wallace. Someone that no matter how good the other teams D-Line and Lb's are they cant account for his speed.

Agreed. You'd hope that most coaches are honest and upfront - you know, "All we can promise you is the scholarship and an opportunity to compete."

But I doubt it. That's not the kind of sales pitch that's gonna stock a roster with four and five star recruits.

I disagree with most of this post.

I should re-state, it's not necessarily true that you can't trust them. It's that things can change so quickly. They could tell you you're "their guy," the only QB in that class. All that can be true. What if next year they find a shining star HS QB or a great grad transfer? Do you think they'll pass on him because he's not "their guy"? It's just gotta be tough to make such a big decision that's hard to undo.

It seems to me that real won't be full time qb. I thought i read somewhere that he will be used in different spots
