Bring back Larry

Larry somehow managed to not win the NCAA tournament with the most talented team we have ever (and probably will ever) see in Ames.

Beyond that, they weren't even his players. We owe Tim Floyd for that elite 8 run.

In a TV interview Fizer was asked to compare Floyd and Larry. He responded that the two would make the same adjustments but Larry was much faster to do it. Perhaps several of you saw this.
Rudy

LE's tenure began the downfall of Men's BBall at ISU.

Larry was not the downfall. Gene Smith leaving and ISU hiring Bruce VD was. And not only BB, BVD almost killed the whole ath. dept. The lost money while BVD was at the helm is something we are still digging out from today.

It's true. He didn't want to spend any money. Look at what JP has done in the little time he has been in charge. Only problem is the hole is really deep. Going to take a while.

No, the problem is the hole is getting deeper. It's going to take us years to get back to the bowl games and NCAA tournaments that we used to experience regularly (back before Jamie arrived).

Oh please.

once again
YOUR OPINION

5 years pre-pollard: 4 bowl games, 3 basketball tournaments.

3 years of Pollard: 0 bowl games, 0 basketball tournaments.

You may not like it but those are not opinions. Those are facts.

The only thing I responded to was your opinion.

Sorry, didn't have time to read the thread, but by the title I assume you want to bring back "Hello, Larry," the failed 80s sitcom. Two problems. First, McLean Stevenson is dead. Second, the ****** is going to need a lot of help. Perhaps you could catch a few old Match Game episodes to get your McLean Stevenson fix in lieu of getting back the old series.

Bruce van de velde...THE WORST ATHLETIC DIRECTOR IN THE HOLEEEEE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, man. The results say otherwise.
:biglaugh:

Results like INCREASED donations and fund raising?
Results like increased membership with the ISU booster club?
Results like record ticket sales?
Results like record attendance?
Results like continued improvement in facilities?
Results like the woman's vollyball program and the wrestling program?

Yep, I agree the results do speak for themselves.

and yes BVD was in way over his head.

WE ARE STILL PAYING FOR THE BDV AD EXPERENCE. He tried to save ISU into prosperty. He ****ed up the BB program. He couldnt get fans into the seats. He wasnt able to take advantage of the best run in Cyclone sports history. He had no idea how to raise money. He didnt know PR. He didnt know how to handle the media. Thank God Danny Mac was there to be the face of ISU athletics and keep things halfway together.

i think you guys are preaching to the very small minority on this website. most on here would probably agree with the likes of kingcy and goshow on this topic.

montyburns seems to me to be a bit of a schizo(sp?) on this site.
one minute he seems to have well thought out ideas and postings, the next he is acting like a hawk fan

Let's play the athletic director game! Max Urich was here and really did nothing memorable we had Johnny and that was it, Gene Smith got us to levels never before reached with his hires, he left and BVDV lived off of Smith's hires until he botched the LE situation and ran every potential replacement off until having to take Morgan by default. Pollard had to come in and clean up the mess left by BVDV.

How many other athletic directors are put on a one year contract by the school like Bruce was? How many AD's try to keep a department successful by saving money vs. raising donations and the level of play we are at? Is Bruce a co-owner of a satellite installation company?

Why do we think our former admins and coaches were so great when no other school in the country hired them to fill the role they had with us, and we should have kept them or not replaced them with what we have now?

LE I would take back, although that would divide the cyclone fans more than anything or anyone else I believe.

BVD also had a weird avoidance of handshakes - he was afraid of germs. He would have to run to wash his hands afterwards.
Danny Mac's football players used to have fun and try to shake hands with him as often as they could, just so they watch him have a fit.
He did hire Christy Johnson, though.

LOL.

BVD: 5 years, 4 bowl games, 3 bb tournaments.

JP: 3.5 years, 0 bowl games, 0 bb tournaments. Thanks for the increase in booster club membership. How long will people continue to pay for winless conference seasons? Not much longer.

Great post! Totally agree with your assessment of the BVD era.

He's a living identity crisis. You're right. No one knows what comes next from his keyboard.
