So do we know this was definitely about how this season was handled, or is this just working out details on how the TNT deal will work?

If I were him, I’d be on the phone with TNT to see if they’d be willing to do a studio show. Even if that was a 30 or 60 minute show Saturday morning, it would go a long way in getting the attention.

except that doesn't fit with your narratives. if he was rooting for a CU-BYU game... why show up at a stadium he's never shown up at on the coldest game of the year when one of the teams he's openly rooting for still has yet to play?
Because he's the commissioner for the entire conference and one of the biggest conference games of the season (if not the biggest) was being played at a stadium he has yet to visit.

I think the best answer is to try to lure CBS from the B1G, and let them showcase the BEST from the Big XII each week. They literally could have first choice, and it almost always would be better than the 3rd / 4th, etc. choice they end up with the B1G - which has an oversaturated deal. Good for CBS and Good for the Big XII.
There is zero chance Big 12 is ever taking the 2:30 slot from the B1G. Could we steal the 11am slot from MW, possibly.

I think parity of NIL is going to affect the B1G and SEC more than they want, which is why they will lean on their media partners to carry water and talk about why Nick Saban's championships matter now to them as a conference instead of play on the field. The Big 12 needs to keep their **** together and win some games against them in the playoff and all of this gets a little bit easier. But it will be tough sledding if all you get is one Big 12 competing up against the P2 with seven or eight in. But ESPN knows this. Big 12 teams that get the opportunity, have to win games.

A general thought is Bowl games "don't mean anything". you can't force Big12 players to play, But I'd love to see our (B12) player to represent in a huge way, and win the games against the SEC and BIG. Colorado already said they're all in, I'd be shocked if we had any not play (Assuming were not in the big dance).

Unfortunately, beginning this year, non-CFP bowl games have never meant less.

He said it's his first visit to Jack Trice, so he probably felt compelled to be here for this game.

He’s been to Jack Trice before. I’ve seen him there. I heard what he said and I was a bit confused by it too. Watching it back, I think he meant it was his family’s first time at Jack Trice.

You’re assuming we won’t be in the playoffs??

Maybe he was just wanting to be on site to do damage control after we actually got into the championship game. :jimlad:

I know he's been to Iowa State's campus before, but I figured he meant that this is the first football game he's ever attended at Iowa State.

We can get there but, the B12 will have many more in bowl games. When were in the playoff, we or ASU needs to win games in the playoff. If we get a home game in January "We Will" win, no southern team will want to come up here and play. That will be awesome. Point is we need to win against the chosen few.

It won't matter unless ESPN loses the CFP rights.. we need a diversity of broadcast partners for the conference and CFP

It goes beyond just the playoff discussion.

I would rather have a TV "partner" whose coverage falls well above ESPN's current baseline of somewhere between "let's ignore them" and "talk **** about them every chance we get."

I’ve had the good fortune to have multiple interactions with the commissioner at the Loews Hotel in Kansas City. He knows how important Iowa State and its fans are to the Big 12 in both basketball and football. Prime may have gotten the better viewership numbers but what Yormark needs is for one of his fb programs to win a playoff game. Iowa State and Arizona State give him the best opportunity for that win.

It’s sad it even comes to this. The Big12 is literally an ESPN product and it’s crazy they don’t promote them. They hype up the B1G which they have no part of more than the Big12. I kind of wonder if the main reason we are still with ESPN is because they sweetened the pot a little bit to get OuuT early. Obviously it’s ESPN and it’s not bad to be on though, and this new TBS thing starting next year helps too.
