Breaking Bad

Just re-watched the beginning of the episode where it shows the house. Its gated up with a "No Trespassing" sign by the city of ABQ, but it did not appear burnt. It just looked badly abandoned. The fridge and loto ticket where gone too. WTF?

I checked this same episode the other day for the ticket. I thought "Okay, no ticket, but fridge is still there." But checking again, maybe it is gone. The shadows in the hall make it difficult to tell.

The house, obviously, remains standing, and perhaps could be slightly scorched. (Can't tell) Jesse didn't have a spray can/paint we could see, so I don't think he wrote "Heisenberg" at this time. Hmmm.

So is there four or five episodes left? Just enough to get us through to Walking Dead?

The fridge is gone along with the island kitchen top. The walls are clearly not burned, but the floor/carpet does appear destroyed. All the furniture is gone too.

And with 5 more episodes, that will run through to September 29th with Walking Dead starting October 13th. So, yes.

Holy crikeys. What an episode. I think I said "Oh my God" out loud about 4 times during the confession video because I couldn't believe what I was seeing. This show hit its quota of memorable mind blowing scenes a long time ago.

Fun read on the episode:
'Breaking Bad' Recap, 'Confessions': Going To Extremes | Maureen Ryan

It is interesting that Walter playing his son is just a tiny little side note. It really is, the way things went, but that was just so low.
That's a great write up.

"Well, maybe you should just die already." Thanks for sharing, Marie!
I lol'd.

Did anybody read the editorial by Anna Gunn that was linked in that write-up? I went through it and understand her concern with how some people have let the hate for Skyler turn into hate for her, but the reasoning she offered up for the Skyler hate is off-base, IMO.

People don't hate Skyler because she's a strong woman (which I don't think she is, anyway). They hate her because she's a pretty disgusting person; not as bad as Walt, but if I knew Skyler in real life, she'd be the worst person I know.

Sometimes I feel like I'm not watching the same show as some of you people.

Let's do a quick rundown here.

1. She spends (what felt like) a decade chastising Walt for his choices and riding a high horse (all while she was laundering his filthy drug money).

2. After all her annoying handwringing over how it wasn't safe for the children to stay in the White household, she then fights tooth and nail to keep them when Walt is still the same monster he's been for quite some time.

3. She's gone all-in with Walt and the "confession", while absolutely brilliant strategy on Walt's part, is a ridiculously disgusting thing to do to a family member. Listening to Walt and Skyler at the restaurant made me wish somebody would tie them down and kill them with 1000 razor cuts.

Skyler does all of this and hides behind the family card (just like Walt does), but I don't think she really cares about anyone but herself (again, just like Walt).

Skyler is a great character because her actions are very human and understandable, as your 3 points illustrated. You want a really annoying wife character to hate, watch Dexter. Now thats a character I couldnt stand.

I really don't see how pulling the crap she pulled tonight is anywhere near the realm of "understandable". At least not in the sense that it's understandable how a moral person would do such a thing. It's understandable that an awful person who cares only about saving her own skin would do something like that.

Interesting interpretation. You could make the argument the last few episodes that she's finally going down the road of being like Walt, but the Skyler hate has been going on much longer than that and really nothing she had done before this justified the vitriol some people had. I would really be interested to see how some of the haters would respond if they were put in her exact situation.

She thought she had a certain life and now it's completely over, her husband is a completely different person than she thought and she's pretty much been trapped by this homicidal *******. Someone here complained that she always assumes the worst, but if the lives of your children are at stake what would you assume? Would you just take Walt's word for it that the violence of the drug trafficking world won't spill over in his home? I don't think so. The only reason she let them home is because Walt retired from the business. And honestly what she's doing now is probably part self preservation part doing whatever she has to so she doesn't lose the kids. Because they would basically be orphans if she goes down with Walt.

I swear people who are just watching the show now have heard so much about the Skyler hate that they're just expecting to hate her and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy, instead of actually trying to imagine what it's like from her point of view.

SKyler has a lengthy pile of crap of her own, she is no paragon of virtue. Everything she did with Ted, from cooking his books, having an affair, heck she even was the one who went to Saul when he sent in his "A" Team. I simply can't stand her.

It's completely understandable to the degree that her reactions to a situation forced upon her are plausible. Your criticism is outrageous and ridiculous. It is easy to judge wilts on a high horse and seeing the world as Big Brother would see it. You lack empathy. Obviously nobody is going to do the same thing as others in the same situation, but you have to understand you can't possibly predict how you might react being in the same shoes as any of these characters.

Personally, I have a very difficult time classifying any of these characters as good or bad.....very similar to Game of Thrones/A Song of Fire and Ice.

And on an unrelated note, the cinematography for this show is truly outstanding. It has an identity all its and truly enforces the mood of the show.

I think the logical response to finding out your husband is a meth kingpin is not to launder his money. It's to go to your brother in law DEA agent.

Empathy is different than sympathy. I empathize with Skyler, but that doesn't mean I can't view her actions in a very poor light.

No one said she's perfect. Yeah she had an affair after she found out her husband manufactured meth and while she was trying to get a divorce from him. I've heard of worse things. And she made a bad decision with cooking the books and by going to Saul she was trying to clean up the mess. But I still don't think any of this is worth the incredible amount of hatred people have.

You need to re-watch season 3. It wasn't that simple, as it rarely is in this show.

That makes her normal. She's desperately trying to keep her family together.
Often, she's the least disgusting person on the show. Often, she's lumped right in with everyone else making nasty choices.
Haven't found it in me to hate her yet.

I like skylar now after hating her for 4 seasons its all come full circle. Once I re watched seasons 1-4 you view everything in a different light and walter definitely isnt as appealing as the first watch through, which in turns makes skylar look better.

I think the most underrated part of last night is that family is now in play:
1. Walter, Jr. will be overreacting out of legitimate sympathy
2. Hank and Marie know that Walt is willing to reach out against family now.
3. The whole Walt vs. Jesse thing
4. Nobody anywhere has mentioned this (that I've found yet), but Todd kept calling him Mr. White instead of Heisenberg. I don't know if those guys knew who he was before, but they do now. They're willing to do some killing.
