Bobby Douglas dead at 83

Coach Douglas used to sit behind us when we first got our season tickets- he was a section 113 member . Loved listening to him . Heard some opinions
that he asked us never to repeat; and I won't. He made a huge impression on me and a huge mark on the wrestling world. RIP Coach.

This very sad news. Bobby was not only a great wrestler and coach. But a great person and family man. He had great ethics and he recruited wrestlers that were up to his standards and morals. He of course recruited and coached some of our all time greats. He will be missed.
God bless Jackie & Bobo

Kudos to a great Cyclone who gave so much for us.

I don't know the wrestling schedule well enough, but I hope Dresser can make the funeral. It would be a good show of respect IMO.

His best line about Penrith was “I have forgotten more about wrestling than he knows about wrestling”.

One of his classiest moments was when he had the ref start and stop a match at NCAAs so Mocco wouldn’t lose by default. Mocco had slammed are heavyweight and injured him. It didn’t apppear that Mocco was trying to injure him.

RIP!

The wrestler was Scott Coleman .

This interview of Steve Mocco tells you everything you need to know about Bobby Douglas. At the 2003 NCAA tournament Steve came in as the #1 seed. In his first match Steve was called for an illegal move against his Iowa State opponent, who got injured to the point where Assistant coach Chris Bono was going to have his wrestler take the win via disqualification against Mocco. Coach Douglas was in the stands and saw what was happening. He jumped down from the stands and ran across three mats to make sure his wrestler didn't win that way. He had his wrestler resume the match for one second and then he had his wrestler medically default. This allowed Mocco to advance and ultimately win the title that year. What a class act Coach Douglas was! P.S., The Iowa State wrestler was able to wrestle his next match, but lost in OT.
