Totally agree, except I've been through some pretty tough times in Cyclone sports, so with the football team going to bowls I can't say this is as bad as it's been.

But you are so right about everything else IMO. MBB and WBB are not good at all right now. Football ended the season horribly, and I just don't get all the optimism about next year either? As you said, the OL will a total work in progress, so IMO Iowa will beat us fairly handily in IC next year. Without a decent OL, Purdy and Hall and Kolar, etc are nearly worthless.

And after watching both teams in their bowl games, Brian Ferentz >>>>>> Manning IMO.... and it hurts me terribly to say that. I understand that ND's defense is way better than USC's defense, but Iowa's playcalling and scheme was so dynamic and aggressive compared to ours in the bowl games. BF used the month off to come up with an amazing gameplan.... and Manning trotted out nothing innovative or dynamic whatsoever.

What does our ranking have to do with Iowa?

And as usual.... we'll lose to Iowa again.... they will win their bowl game and we won't... and they will finish the season ranked and we won't.

Rinse and repeat. I know everyone will trash me for saying it, but the truth hurts. Time for us to quit living in some la la land and face the facts.

You wanna grab a beer sometime? You seem like a lot of fun.

I truly think this is the year we breakthrough and beat Iowa and I believe the trend will go our way and we will start winning against them routinely. For some reason and I hate to admit it but Nate Stanley was our kryptonite. He’s gone now and regardless of getting a lot of practice and learning from Stanley they’ll be breaking in their new quarterback.

Well some fans know ISU athletics before 2016 so the bolded can't be taken seriously.

Historically, any winning season and a nationally televised bowl game mean good things for ISU football even though, yes, improvements would be great. Basketball isn't good...there's been worse.
We've had decades that were worse than the past two months. I get it, raised expectations increase frustration. But jeebers cripes, folks, it HAS been MUCH worse, and for much longer periods.

People really underestimate how important Lima and Johnson have been IMO.

Apparently you underestimate both the caliber of players CMC has brought in to replace those two—and the horde of seasoned players everywhere else on defense.

If you want to talk just the DL, that’s Enyi Uwazurike and Zack Petersen starting, Tucker Robertson got experience—and Will McDonald was a total beast when he moved back to end. And that doesn’t even count JaQuan Bailey coming back healthy.

All that experience on the exterior will help with the transition inside. But If you really, really want to Chicken Little on the interior, Matt Campbell says that Josh Bailey and Isaiah Lee have just been waiting their turn behind what you yourself said were top flight players. They both have multiple years of experience in the program. Latrell Bankston, who was a total disruptor in JC, is on campus for Spring drills. And I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if true frosh JR Singleton saw PT this Fall as well. CMC likes him that much.

Are you sure that you wouldn’t like to overreact about the openings at Will LB and SS as well? If you’d like, we can certainly play that game, too.

I'm not buying into any hype until I see the OL perform. We're replacing almost the whole line so yeah, I am skeptical. All the skill talent on O does not matter if your skill guys don't have time to throw, run or get open.

As far as DL, Lima and Johnson were SOOOOOO good. You don't just replace that. I'd rather have guys returning up the middle than the edges. You win by being strong in the middle. I think LB and Safety should be ok but man I am worried about DL. Does not matter if those other positions are good if teams are chunking you for 4-5 yards per play.

What about the Oline?

Seems like the narrative is that there's talent waiting in the wings...but last season's group was still the best ISU had.

Next year will be pretty telling for Campbell's ability to recruit and develop an offensive line. We're 5 years into this thing and we have yet to see that dominant run game we expected when he was hired. JP even said that was a big reason he was brought in (during the initial press conference).

We have had some decent rushing attacks-- largely due to an NFL running back. We've got backs with that potential on our roster now, so it's ultimately up to the development of the guys up front. No excuses about having young guys or whatever. Let's be the bullies of the Big 12.
