Billy Gillispie

Honestly I would like this. Shoot me.

I am in no way saying this would be a good or bad move. However, I do take offense to the writer saying, "Shame on the Cyclones" and referring to Gene Chizik as an example. He is basicly saying that no big name coach would ever want to coach at ISU for anything more than a quick stepping stone....ever heard of Johnny Orr, Neill Woelk?

The ISU fan support for basketball is reason enough for any coach to want to stay at ISU after having success. They have to achieve that success first, though.

Great post.

3 or 4. Last I heard he was in rehab down here.

You posted my exact thoughts. I'd support it, but a womanizing, self-described workaholic with alcohol problems might not fly with a lot of the fan base.

And it should not fly with the fan base, at least not right now. He was in rehab last fall, but I don't know if he is still there.

Billy Clyde should get himself a MBB broadcasting gig for a couple of years to see whether he can keep his problems under control, before he goes back into coaching and wreaks havoc on some school's MBB program. If he's good for a couple of years, give coaching a try at that point. I know that's probably too late for ISU, but it would be the safest for Billy and whatever school he is going to coach at next.

Maybe we could work out a deal with Billy Clyde where he could come in after next season and he could spend this whole year recruiting without NCAA oversight like Huggy did. That worked out great for KSU.

We would be on our 4th coach in 10 years. We couldn't afford to wait around while Billy was in rehab after he gets is 5th OWI.

I hope to god we aren't looking for a new coach soon because you all are going to be very disappointed in the pool of candidates interested in this job and with anyone we hire.

If Billy is hired I'm done with ISU bball. Of course, I'm kinda there now.

Gillespie would leave whenever he got the chance. I am not interested in getting rid of Greg but if we do has Mike Davis from UAB been mentioned? I think he would be a good choice

I think the big news on the Column is that A@M hired Kragethorp. Dude is a great coordinator and former head coach.

JSB, I know that you are connected to the coach (saying your dad is a long time UNI season ticket holder is enough to prove that, I was in the dome with 1500 people Greg's first three years), and so you spout this same stuff over and over.

Just, please, stop tearing down Iowa State. Make a case for Greg. Not 4 coaches in 10 years, or nobody wants this job. That isn't what is needed right now, and it pisses off people even more.

Give real reasons why he will all of a sudden be successful. Not this other nonsense. And also be critical of the mistakes he has made, that too will add to credibility.

People want Iowa State to win. Iowa State has won in the last 25 years. There is no hope for this program right now, and Greg has been here long enough to be responsible for ALL of it.

Why? you know something we don't? SOunds like a good coach to me, aside the OWI's

The OWI's are kind of a big deal, don't you think? You act like they are the same as a parking ticket.

so let me get this straight - our previous two coaches pre GMAC were an alcoholic and one with questionable recruiting methods. So we're going to hire Gillespie, who has a drinking problem and questionable recruiting methods. makes sense.

or we can hire mike davis, who struggled in a BCS conference and couldn't keep IN's best player's in state. like our current coach, who's struggled in a BCS conference and can't keep the best players in state. makes sense.

It's tough to compare the two sports. With our new basketball facility and hopefully some Hilton Magic, Iowa State is probably a pretty fun place to coach. The fans will almost always be there and with a little winning, you're one of the most popular people in the state.

The same Mike Davis who took his team to a title game. Yep, that guy.
