I would think CW and other media would be far down the list of who anyone would share this info with before it’s made public.

Not saying he would spill the beans right on the pod, I was just taken aback by Chris and Blum's comments making it sound like there a possibility Bill stays a lot longer than many on the WBB board might expect.
I’d say no one but family really know right now. The tough thing for anyone is getting a recruiting class that is top notch for the fall of 27. Unless he comes out and announces something other coaches will use that against ISU.
I agree other coaches are possibly using his status against him but it is my understanding Bill is not committing to recruits that he will be coaching beyond next season.
Had the pleasure of tailgating next to AJ's parents for a FB game in 2024. When we pulled in did not even know who they were at first, but after chatting with them a bit like we usually do with our neighbors at tailgates found out who they were and that the WBB team was going to be tailgating with them later. Reagan Wilson's parents showed up shortly after we were setup and got to talk with both the Jackson and Wilson parents (was the Wilsons first time ever at a ISU FB game we found out) and had some great conversations. The story about AJ using her NIL to buy tickets for her friend came out not long before then I think and I mentioned it to her parents that was a great story and they should be proud to have raised such a wonder young lady. I'm not surprised at all about that story after getting to meet her family even if just for a few hours that day. If you know anything about them, her dad played for McCarney and her brother played for Campbell and her mom also went to ISU so they are a great Cyclone family.
There really is no need for Bill to share his retirement plans yet and it will be interesting if he announces it before or after a season too I think. I can see a scenario where he doesn't want his last season to be a season-long farewell which might take the focus away from the team if every road game winds up being a Bill Fennelly appreciation tour with as long as he's been in the conference. Either way in this day of age with the portal not sure it will really matter for recruiting when he announces it because players typically come more for the coach and not the school so there are going to be de-commits and transfers regardless of when that news breaks. Just look at how many left when Campbell took the PSU job and not even all of them followed him there on top of it. Same happens just about anywhere there is a coaching change now days so the recruiting and roster aspect of things don't really concern me as much as making sure we make the right hire when the time comes.
If CBF is telling recruits he cannot commit to 2027 and beyond that would leave me to belive he has a plan or at least an idea of when he is hanging it up.
Could be. Or it could be that a coach who will be 70 years old before the 2027 season begins and has a history of cancer can't foretell what kind of shape he will be in then.
I hope Bill considers retiring this year so he doesn’t have to be totally responsible for wasting Addy and Audi

Im going to disagree. Get a new staff in here ASAP. Recruiting and coaching needs to improve.

To me it’s not even that I think he is a bad coach. Our offense is top 20 in efficiency year in and year out.
It’s that his assistants don’t seem to add anything and Bill seems unwilling to change anything. The defense is among the worst in the P4.
It’s past time. This team is inept.
